2001 Acura Integra GSR from North America - Comments

"Fun car to drive"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I have had this car for about a year and a half and already put 60,000 miles without having a single problem with the car except for one:

The check engine light came on, and come to find out, part of the emissions system failed. This had no adverse effect on performance and was replaced for free by the dealer.

General comments?

I believe that I made a good choice when I purchased this car.

It handles well, and has good acceleration.

The shifter and clutch are much smoother than other manual cars that I have driven.

I am able to cut through traffic with ease.

Some of my friends do not think it has enough headroom, however it does not bother me.

There are plenty of mods for this car that I am thinking of trying out in the future.

I am the proud owner of an Acura Integra GS-R 2001.I bought the car in 2001, last year Gs-r was on the market.

I sincerely do not regret my choice because now it is a

very rare model. As I recall only around 2000 of these fine made ingineered cars were introduced in Canada on its last year.

This car can literaly kick A... If you punch it up on the open road BE CAREFUL after the 3rd gear, notice your speed!Oh my God !

Mazda, Mitsubishi, Volks... BRING IT ON... Mouhahah ;-)

Mazda, Mitsibishi, Volks bring it on? Mazda RX-7, Mitsu Eclipse GSX, Volkswagen R32. Enough said. GSR's are a dime a dozen. Discover some originality.

"GSRs dime a dozen"? That's pure BS. Try find a CLEAN, unmodified, untortured GSR, especially the sedan. Very hard to come by. I would never buy a modified vehicle (for many reasons) and unfortunately, those GSRs seem to be the perfect modification platform. Also, they're often modified by teenagers who go racing and beat the hell out of those cars. GSRs are also quite rare, particulary the sedan.

All the other cars mentioned in last comment are too different to directly compete with GSR. Rotary-engined RX7 is way more powerful to begin with (255hp or so stock) and designed as pure sports car as opposed to Acura which is a modification of standard humble Civic platform. VW R32? Well VW is well known for falling apart soon and high parts prices. I wouldn't touch anything VW with a 10-foot pole, while Integras including the GSR, are very reliable on day-to-day basis. Not to mention that R32s and Rx7s are 2-door only and some people, including me, like 4-door's practicality. Did I mentioned better fuel economy?

Perhaps Eclipse GSX is closest, but also more powerful from beginning - 210hp or so, not to mentioned awd. Their reliability seems to be also quite bad especially considering how expensive turbo and awd are to replace. Also it is 2-door only. And try finding an unmodified one! Good luck!

My current car is a Honda Accord, and my next car will definitely be a Honda too (the aforementioned GSR most likely). Because for the price, performance, reliability, and utility (of sedan that is) it's VERY hard to beat! Long live the GSR.

RX7 - rotary engine has limited engine life/miles that can be driven, the apex seal wears every mile you drive, it's a fast car, but won't last long,

VW R32 - VW is known for poor build quality and high repair/part price, and it's not that fast... in US you don't get the turbo V6...

Mitsu GSX? - these so called 2g dsm with 7 bolt motor is know to have crank walk, warranty does not cover it, engine dies need a new one... poor transmission, most GSX transmission are known to be poorly shimmed, very heavy car, stock brakes are over worked...

Acura integra GSR, fast enough and yet gas efficient, and of course, super reliable, low maintenance cost, no matter how hard you beat on it, they keep on going... there are mods to make it even more reliable and powerful... and very very fun to drive on a track, it's not always about the straights...

Come on Integra haters. Think about it, an I4 with 170 horsepower, never mind the VTEC which surprisingly makes a huge difference, going against a V6... (Gas guzzler). You'd think the V6 would win any day buy you should only talk unless you've been in a race with these two. After third gear, you're gone in the Integra, especially if you're using race revs. If I were to buy a new car, I think I would pick the more reliable, rare, and gas efficient GSR or Type R.

Acura Integra, best car ever bought. It's an LS, but that's cool to.

First, to start off with, all other cars that were in previous comments are not that bad cars, every single car has their bad spots, EVERY CAR.

1994 LS 109k, replaced all hoses and axles about $300. Bought the car for $100 a year ago. Still driving it today, awesome buy and car.

I have had my 2001 Integra for about a month and a half now. Its not the GSR, it's a GS.

Also it's my first car ever with a manual trans, so I had to learn when I got it. But I'm the kind of guy who goes out for several hours just to drive around in the windy woodsy roads.

I think I would only be happier with two cars: a BMW M3, or a Mini Cooper S with the John Cooper Works kit, because this car is FAST for its size, and nimble as all get out.

I see these assholes with like a Ford that has the big ass muffler and I just burn them. Great fun.

Only one complaint. And that is that 5th gear is too low. Starts at like 40 mph, so when I'm going 80 on the highway, I'm at like 3500 rpm and not getting great mileage.

Its worth it though. These cars are perfect if you can't afford a real sports car, plus the hatchback makes it even more useful.

I just bought a 2001 Acura Integra GSR model from a Honda Dealership. It was used, but still had the warranty and in perfect shape. I used to have a 1991 Acura Integra and missed this car so much after selling that I bought this one. This car handles awesome and drives to perfection. No problems at all just like my old one and you can drive it hard and not even worry you will break something and it just keeps going and going with great gas mileage. Funnest car I ever drove and will keep this one for couple 100,000 miles or until it dies.

I'm about to buy an acura integra gsr. 170 hp on a 4 cylinder. that's impressive. the only cars IN ITS CLASS that compare are the honda prelude (200hp) and vw gti (172hp no vtec obviously). Not to mention the reliability that goes along with buying a Honda (acura). Cars of this caliber tend to last over 200,000 with ease and low maintenance costs. GSR is the way to go for sure.

I own a 1999 Integra GSR. My cousin owns 4 of them. It is an extremely reliable and amazingly fun car to drive. Accelerates fast, superb handling. Just a nice, reliable, fun car to have. Also, amazing gas mileage!
