1992 Oldsmobile 98 Regency from North America - Comments

"The Oldmobile 98 is an Awesome American Ride - Very Comfortable"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

When I bought the car it was kinda neglected, the previous owner did no repairs because they knew they were selling so did not want to put more money in the car. After I bought the car I immediately replaced the bad parts:

* Water Pump

* OEM PVC Valve

* Tune-up

* New OEM Wire Set

* New Front Brake System

* Replaced Thermostat.

Now the car runs like new.

General comments?

I previously owned a Nissan Maxima and went to the Oldsmobile if you can believe it. The Nissan was very good, but as it got older the parts are very very expensive$$$. The parts replaced above are pennies compared to the Nissan. I laughed when they told me the prices of the parts -- so cheap!! For example, I bought new Brake Rotors at NAPA - they were $20 each (haha) ; the Maxima Rotors were $89 each!!

The Ninety-Eight is also very good on Gas. It gets about 18 miles per gallon city / 22 miles per gallon highway. The back seat is very very spacious and comfortable. The car overall is very roomy. This is a very rare car since most full size cars have V8's -- this one only has a V6 but has enough power to quickly move it. I would recommend this car to anyone; in fact when I've been asked by 3 people that when I sell the car to check with them first; they want to buy it!! If you get a chance to buy an Olds 98 - do it - it's an Awesome car. Once you drive a Full Size American car you will never go back to the small little Foreign ones again! My friend just bought the so called Full Size Toyota Avalon (my car made it look like a Pipsquik!!)

I also have to agree with the above post, seeing as I have a 1988 olds 98 regency brougham fe3. At 250k+ miles this car still runs great and I plan to keep it many years.

I also have a 1992 oldsmobile ninety-eight regency elite. but I do not get very good mil/p/g. I only get 12-14 city and 18 highway. Whats wrong with mine. It is in excellent condition with 97k on it. And what horse power does it have I have had my car for about 7 months and don't know much about it.

I have a 1993 Oldsmobile 98 Regency that I 'inherited' from my wife at 163Kmiles. (She got the new car). Spent $8 putting in a new GM re-manufactured engine and transmission. (Best money I ever spent) In 7 yrs my wife had it, always out of the sun and never in an accident. Runs perfectly). At 55 mph on cruise control, delivers 30+ mpg (the truckers hate me). Expect to have this car a long time. You ever get a chance to pick up a 98 that has been taken care of like this one, snap it up. --Gary Moore.

I am a Master L1 Certified Automobile Technician and I love my 1992 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Elite (It now has 200,000 miles on it). Working on all of the so called dependable foreign cars all day long (emissions failures and many other strange type problems with parts prices overinflated), I hop into the Olds for a comfortable ride home (The last thing I want to do is have to work on my own vehicle after a hard day). I keep up with normal maintenance and I would not hesitate to take it on a cross country trip. Gas mileage is 12-15 city and 26-28 highway. Very funny, the so called fuel efficient 6 cyl Camry of the same vintage is rated at only 23 highway miles according to the government fuel economy website!

I have a 1992 Park Avenue, which is the twin of the Olds 98. I looked around for years for an early 1990's one, and finally found one owned by elderly people. Getting a really good one can be hard, but since most cars made since the early 1990's are unreliable it is worth looking and paying a bit (I paid $5,000 for one with 55,000 miles).

I very slightly prefer the styling of the Park Ave. but the 98 is a nice looking car too. My only complaint is many of these cars have leather seating - much less comfortable than cloth. You can always go to a Delta 88 or a LeSabre however.
