Problem with fan. Thus resulting in the car over-heating and now has a head gasket problem.
Central locking faulty.
Dashboard faulty- sometimes nothing lights up.
Problem with coil.
Problem with crankshaft sensor.
Seats starting to wear badly.
Wood starting to crack.
I buy approximately six cars a year that fall in the classic or performance bracket, this is the first maserati I have owned and without doubt the worst car I have ever bought. My advice is spend a little more and buy an early Porsche if you want an every day car as reliability is excellent, or a cheaper model Ferari such as a Mondial if it is for occasional use. The only positive things I could say about the Maserati is the performance was quite good and the beautiful Cartier clock always worked.
Your problems with this car sound very strange to me. Since there was originally never a Maserati with a Cartier Clock existing,- but you obviously had one built in, may be you had lots of other non proper working after market parts built into your car as well? Where and how did you purchase it?
I own a 222 and I have a 224 now since 89
On the first one I put 132000 km with out major problems.
The car was in the street under sun and rain.
1 fuse box
1 alternator
1 clutch.
The second one
I have the car from 91 and still running very strong and looks great outside and inside.
Leather is still good after 15years (model year 89) it was garaged only for the last 7 years. The original paint still very good as well (Black with gray bumpers) there are 2 spots of rust starting on the driver door do to the fact that in Germany I open the door on a very high sidewalk and probably cracked a little the paint in 94. The other is near the windshield that by the way started when I replace it. (i got a stone on my glass at 200knh, not a nice feeling) I think the guys did scratch the paint when they put in the new windshield.
Yet 140000km.
1 clutch 134000km
1 alternator at 100000km
1fusebox at 130000km
upgrade ac to new gas and new compressor
new gas lift for the trunk (when 12 years old)
1 distributor 75000km
2 new rpm sensors (just in case, no problems, but this are the one that normally start to give problems around 100000 for not starting the car. 30Euro each 20 minutes to replace)
1 differential. this is because I love to accelerate like crazy every time I seat in this car! There is no way, it is stronger then me my foot it is always going down and the feeling against the seat in my back it is just awesome.
The interior it just far superior to all the cars of this category and also superior (all leather doors dashboard consoles seats... Only Rolls meet this)
The frame and suspension are still like new. I never had an crash or touch anything with this cars, but still very surprising how stiff the body still after 15 years.
Defenetly a car that is under estimated and most of all there are mechanics or so called, that do not do their jobs like they should do.
Regarding the comment that no Maserati came with a Cartier clock I beg to differ. The Biturbo came with a Cartier clock.

The Clock was from Lassale. No Cartier and no Rolex :-)
I have a 222SE build in 1991 2,8 L machine.
Its the fastest car around. It eats up all cars up to 345 hp.
It makes less than 5,5 sec in 0-60 and under 12,5 sec in 1/4 mile.
Most problems are bad electric contacts and cheap or bad (and expensive) engine oil. Never use anything else then Mobil1 or better Motul v300. Forget Castrol, it destroys the engine.
Maintain it well and it's a very good car.
224 from 1990. 5 years driving in Amsterdam at full speed, no problems. Spend 10000 euros on repairs. Fantastic car.
I have a 1991 SE. Great car when it all works, nothing comes close to nail biting excitement... but diabolical on anything other than dry roads.
Electrics are terrible, Faulty speedo, Faulty Tacho (RPM) intermittent starting faults. Intermittent alternator problems, which I've had rewired. It over-heats at the drop of a hat, leaks oil from the big end seal which I have had replace 3 times. Air-conditioner either freezes you or roasts you. Can't use Radio, wipers, aircon and fog lamps all at the same time. Great interior but whoever thought of putting alcantara on the seat bolsters should have been shot! Because of it's weave once touched with grease it attracts more dirt - when was the last time a mechanic had clean hands. In Australia all the foam parts have decomposed - roof lining, hood lining, seat pads. Not built for a hot climate!
