2004 Skoda Octavia L&K from India - Comments

"BIG NO - please do not waste your hard earned money"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

1) After 2000 km of running the clutch became heavy. It's so heavy that it's hard to drive in city conditions for more than half an hour. Strangly Skoda cannot do any thing (as the dealer said). They told me that I should learn to live with this.

2) Horn is way too hard to press. It needs to used frequently on Indian roads.

3) Steering is much harder than to other cars.

4) Leather seats and granite solid steering in the L&K is also a let down.

5) Engine gets killed suddenly at low RPM and can invite an ACCIDENT if the car behind comes since you have to turn the ignition way back to zero & crank it again.

General comments?

A BIG NO to folks wanting to buy this car. It is a tank like car in terms of safety & has very good mileage, but what's the use if you find it hard to drive.

After all, cars cheap or expensive, have to first get driven.

Most of your gripes look to be fundamental traits of the car rather than faults.

I can't comment on the engine killing bit as I no idea what you mean by this.

They're still much better cars than Tata!

I haven't driven a 2004 but a 2000 SLX 110tdi is feather light on the clutch and steering (UK model) one of the things I liked about it was how LIGHT and easy to drive it was. So I think yours must be an anomaly or something wrong with it or it's set up differently than the UK model.

I have been using a Skoda Octavia L&K since January 2006, but I don't have any problems yet.

Recently I changed the audio system. After that I coudn't get steering wheel remote system working. Please tell me what I have to do to get the previous functions working (Steering Wheel Remote System).

Thanking you

I too own Skoda L & K model... I can't understand the comment on "Engine gets killed suddenly at low RPM and can invite an ACCIDENT if the car behind comes since you have to turn the ignition way back to zero & crank it again"...

The car should me moved in 1st gear... I'm sure if the car is moved by first gear then there is no chance of car getting switched off... the car is 1900 cc so we have to maintain the required RPM...

"Steering is much harder than to other cars"- I don't have any idea about this comment too... I have driven nearly evey model cars, I don't find much difference...

Good mileage... grand look... comfortable... spacious... what else we expect from a car...

I actually agree with what has been said about octavia. After octavia I am driving verna and I feel verna is comparatively much smoother vehicle.

Hi; this is regarding the message about the fella that had problems with steering wheel after changing the stereo. I had a similar problem... the dealer asked me if I had changed anything in the car? I said no. he said did I touch any of the electricals... and again I said no; not really; I replaced the stereo but what does that have to do with anything. the dealer said the diagnostics will not work unless I get the old radio and plug it back in!! I lucky enough to have it lying around and plugged it in an everything started to work again!

I am not saying this is the fix, but check with the dealer and see if this may be the cause.
