Possibly depends where they are made. I'm in the UK. Maybe you guys in the USA got different versions of these cars. The Taurus and similar Ford Contour are sold as the Ford Mondeo over here. I've had 2 Mondeos, all at over 10 years old with no major rust. A Mazda 6 I had rusted way too early. Not sure if it was a Japanese imported or built where I live. They built the Honda Accord here in the 1990s and it was just as reliable as the Japanese version, so who knows. Honestly it is just luck sometimes I think with cars in regards to rust. Obviously washing and climate have an effect, but how much exactly I'm not sure.
