1998 BMW 5 Series 528i review from North America

Very little has gone wrong with the car since ownership. A week after I purchased it I let my father drive it to work. He proceded to shift into 1st when he should have went into 3rd. Blew the clutch and wore out the flywheel. He claimed he must not have been paying attention, I still made him cover the repair. As far as the car breaking down due to its parts wearing out, I did need to replace the thermostat, which I did myself and it wasen't TO costly.

This car has alone convinced me that BMW is the car to drive. It is a car that inspires confidence and I tell my friends that they can't understand what I am talking about till they drive one themselves. It handles great and has good acceleration with the 5spd. Very comfortable seats, but the cup holders are flimsy so watch out for that. The heated steering wheel is the best for the cold weather. If you can, buy one with the sports pkg. Mine came with that which gives you 17in BBS sport rims (they look awsome), no chrome trim on the sides and I do believe it removes the govern for the speedo (I have taken it up to 130+). Amazing car for what I payed (7200) and the fact that I am a 20yr old college student really makes driving around campus a joy. BMW has made a customer of me and I will keep buying used ones until I get a good enough job to buy one new!!
