1985 Chevrolet S-10 Long Box review from North America
"$600 well spent"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Driver's side of the bench seat is pretty worn out.
Had to replace the alternator when I purchased the truck.
Thermostat gasket blew at 247,000 miles.
Rear brakes went out at 249,000 miles.
Fuel pump went out at 252,000 miles.
Front brakes went out at 256,000 miles.
Break master cylinder went out at 258,000 miles.
Replaced all steering stuff inner and outer tie rods, center link, etc. at 260,000 miles.
Replaced ignition module at 261,000 miles.
General comments?
Yeah, I understand that the problems above don't make this truck seam very reliable, but this truck is by far the most reliable vehicle I have ever driven. All of the problems that have happened to this truck were because of the age of the vehicle.
This truck has very good power considering it has that many miles and it's only a 4 banger.
The inside of the truck has a lot of room for a compact pickup, and is pretty comfortable.
The mileage could be better, but I can't really complain considering the truck is 23 years old.
The only problem I have with the truck is that its only a 4 speed manual, so you have to stick around 55-60 miles per hour to get good mileage.
All in all, I love this truck. It has gotten me out of some tight situations, and has only left me stranded 2 times once because of the brakes and the 2nd cause of the ignition module.
I will 100% recommend an S10 to anyone thinking about getting one. It's a shame Chevrolet stopped making them.
