1983 Holden Commodore VH SL/E review from Australia and New Zealand
"Every inch a luxury car, even after 17 years"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Suspension wear has caused the ride to become very bouncy on the freeway, new struts and springs etc will fix that.
Steering is a bit heavier than usual, cheap and easy to fix.
A few little things like the electric antenna playing up, odometer registers about 1 km in 20.
General comments?
This car has had a very easy life, and its amazing condition reflects this.
The interior is such a nice place to be, even after 17 years. Seats are so comfortable and there's soft velour everywhere you look. Very impressive, especially in dark navy.
The 4.2 V8 gives good performance on gas and petrol. Very relaxed and effortless with the 3 speed trimatic.
Exhaust note is wonderful, rumbles at idle, and growls when you hit the accelerator.
2 tone paint looks awesome, sets them apart from lesser models very effectively. Along with big use of chrome trimming makes for a 'modern classic'.
Tons of standard equipment, the trip computer is fantastic, and fun to play with LOL.
Single spoke steering wheel looks very up-market (for 1983), and gives good visibility of the instruments.
My only criticism of a VH SL/E, is they are so bloody easy to steal!!! Well worth it though.
