1978 Datsun 120Y GL review from Malaysia
"The excellent car that I will keep forever"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
My distributor after ignition coil was blown out after using the car for almost 4 years.
Replace the ball joint and water pump after buying the car from the previous owner.
Replaced a new gas shock absorber for rear
the wheel. It is still good until now.
Changed 4 new tyres, Silver-stone 175/70 R13. Until now, the tyres are still in good condition.
Too much rust on the bottom of the doors.
Leakage under the dashboard due to rust. This will cause water from rain coming inside the car.
General comments?
The car parts are easy to get.
My mechanic likes to service this car.
Has never broken down since I am using this car from 1997. Weekly kilometres done are around 400 kilometres.
Easy to make turning and parking.
Excellent fuel consumption.
Pick-up of the car is very good after some adjustment on the carburetor fuel mixture.
It is a very stable car. I have tried to do 120km/h round sharp corners confidently.
In Malaysia, I have tried many cars such as Proton Iswara, Proton Wira, Kancil, Kenari, Toyota GL SE Limited, Satria and latest Proton Waja, but all of these cars cannot make me feel confident to do 120km/h round sharp corners.
The braking of 120Y is also very good.
The suspension is perfectly good in high speed cornering. I like to increase speed while taking any sharp corner to feel the joys of the car.
