1996 Volvo 940 review from Belgium
"Safe, durable, and great value for money. Buy it as a 'Volvo Selected Used Car'"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Right side rear suspension damper gave way. In fact I didn't even notice the damper had worn out. The dealer told me it was leaking some oil and had to be replaced. He did so under warranty, without the slightest discussion. (BTW, great dealer: Van Kasteren, Sint Niklaas, Belgium)
General comments?
Very spacious, safe and reliable car. Doing 37.000 km per year I haven't experienced any significant problems.
The seats are marvellous. I have a nice history of back problems for over ten years, but my 940's incredibly good seats (they're even heated!) don't cause any problems (Not even on a one-night drive to southern France).
If you drive somewhat carefully, 8 liters per 100 km will do.
And for those silly car magazine journalists who like to poke fun of my 940's 'aged' rear axle: it does everything I could do with my Golf III, but feels a lot safer.
