1984 Holden Commodore VK review from Australia and New Zealand
"Great car IF you know the service history"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Cracked head
Broken plugs
quick wearing lifters
bad big-end wear
rust, lots of it
blown high-beam fuses
bad fitting tail light sockets.
General comments?
Bought the car for $500 with 12 months rego, got it home and it seemed to be missing
checked plugs and snapped 2 off while trying to get then out, took of head and got it hellicoiled (cracks were repaired also)
replaced head and plugs, seemed to run fine.
Next morning I started it and heard a noise, faulty hydrolic lifter, replaced 8 of the 12 lifters and it once again it all seemed OK.
That night I was heading up a steep 2nd gear hill and heard a CLACK-CLACK noise, 5 minutes later I was on the side of the road with a rod out the side of the engine.
I bought a second hand motor for $100
put it in and have driven it from Brisbane to Melbourne a couple of times, (as you can tell by the Kays)
This motor is strong, but is now getting a big-end knock and lifter tap again.
The Variejet carby won't idle.
I will say that it has a brilliant car in all other respects
I do have great plans for this car, but I'll have to get on-top of things for rego.
