1993 Plymouth Voyager review from North America

"Despite the problems I have experienced with this vehicle I would still consider buying a new one"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Air conditioner Evaporator condensing Unit rotted out at 90,000 km. in 1999

Cost $1,000.00 (Canadian) to repair.

Cooling Fan also quit at approx. same time 1999. Cost $ 500.00 (Canadian) to repair. Unable to just replace the fan motor since the radiator shroud and fan motor are a single unit.

Engine is 3.0L.

Had to have the heads replaced at 120,000 km. 2 burnt valves.

Repair bill $2,000.00 (also replaced Drive Chain belt at this time).

Cigarette Lighter quit a long time ago.

I don't smoke so it's not a problem for me.

Rear window wiper quit at 100,000 km.

Didn't bother getting it fixed.

Radio - works OK as long as I don't turn it off. Problem with the volume / On/Off Control.

General comments?

I have never had to replace or do repairs on the transmission although

I understand that this is a common problem with these vehicles.

I have found that the transmission has always been jerky when changing gears. (Does not change smoothly).

I have noticed more recently now at 165,000 km that white smoke is emitting from the exhaust pipe.

I thought it might be a bad PVC valve, but now think that I am in for further problems. Bad Piston Rings?

It still seems to be running good

and fuel consumption on highway driving still is around 32 miles per Imp. Gal.

I have never had to repair or replace anything relating to muffler and exhaust system.

Had some minor body rust repairs done a year ago (rust protection warranty)

Otherwise vehicle is still clean and looks almost like new.

Original battery lasted 6 years.

I bought an 84 month warranty battery at Canadian Tire that only lasted 2 years.

I find the vehicle comfortable to drive

especially since I am tall. I would never go back to driving a car after driving this van for 9 years.
