1987 Holden Commodore Executive review from Australia and New Zealand

"An excellent buy, worthy of spending your dough on!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

So far I've had to replace:

All the shockers.

Steering rack.

Air flow sensor.

Exhaust manifold and the bolts.

Tail lights leaking into boot.

Transmission had to be replaced.

General comments?

I consider the VL to be one of the best cars holden have designed in exterior design, but the interior leaves a lot to be desired. The futuristic look on the dash that they attempted failed, failed and cheapens its look.

I have a calais interior lined up for the car, as it is only executive at the moment.

The car has comfortable acceleration and has the extra grunt when required, but top end isn't the best for the standard engines.

The car doesn't have the best ride comfort, as it rolls to much and you can feel every bump in the road through the steering.

In the wet however you don't want to play around too much, as the tail end will slide out without too much trouble, in the dry when you spin the wheels, you can still hold a straight line as there is no LSD standard.

My car is currently receiving a serious makeover, the entire enterior has been redone with a custom vinyl paint job, but this is being replaced with a calais interior in the next couple months.

I also have 300 watt 6" x 9 kenwoods up the back, with 120 watt alpine 4"s up the front with caps cutting out lower frequencies, this is powered by a panasonic head unit, and soon a kicker amp.
