Relatively good and trouble-free car for the first 100,000 km, but after that - watch out!

1992 Chevrolet Corsica LX review from North America

"Makes a good beat on car for a teenager"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

When I bought this car it was white. About six months later the paint started to peel and fall off in large chunks. Now the car is a wonderful primer gray.

The Engine spun a bering at about 90,000 miles. The cost of another used engine was $650.00 with 70,000 miles.

The engine temperature runs almost in the red year round despite a replaced thermostat.

General comments?

Overall this is a zippy little car. The 3.1, V6 can move this light car around fairly quick. This sat well with me since I like a car that can get up and go when you go to pass another vehicle. This car will provide the average driver with more than enough speed.

This car has the worst paint job I ever saw. If you brush against the car, the paint will flake off. My white Corsica is now primer gray.

The engine is always on the brink of overheating. When I first bought the car, I swapped out the thermostat which didn't remedy the problem.

The blown engine at 90,000 miles didn't sweep me off my feet either. Most engines go longer than that before spinning a bering. The car wasn't paid off yet, so I had to pay to put another used engine in it.

One last point is if you live in northern climates where the weather will go below zero (Fahrenheit), expect

an engine that will not start. It has hit 10 degrees below zero where I live and the engine will not turn over. You will just wear the battery down trying.
