1982 Ford Falcon GL review from Australia and New Zealand
"Hard working bargain you can pick up for a steal"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Transmission gave up.
Rust.
Overheated.
Power steering pump ceased to work.
Air-conditioner ceased to work.
Rattles and chews fuel.
General comments?
The car is a typical ford, it will work till you run it so far into the ground you end up killing yourself.
As is typical with ford falcons of the XD, XE, XF, EA in fact all models to date the transmitions have a limited life, as so did this one prooving so by overheating and eventually cooking itself.
As is typical with fords of this era to it was rusty in the doors and guards due to fords sloppy sealing which has carried on to the EF and EL modells of 1998.
In my mind I would suggest several things to people buying a ford ute. You need to visit a cheap wrecker and grab a set of fairlaine bucket seats and centre console and door trims so make the car livable as they are getting quite shabby now, LTD interiors are popular replacements now, though are rare to find and mean messing arround with electric seats and power windows.
In my mind fords are good, just as long as you choose the right one that isn;t totally exhausted from years of hard work.
