1997 Toyota Starlet Life review from Australia and New Zealand
"Ultra reliable transport, fun in city and OK on highway"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
In 5.5 years and nearly 100000Km I have only replaced fuel, oil, filters, coolant, wiper blades, plugs and recently the battery. I am about to replace the original tires. The brakes are original.
It has never stopped and there were no warranty claims.
A large tree fell on it and after I chainsawed it out, I had only a few very minor dents!
General comments?
My first Toyota and it has unbelievable reliability and quality. It is obviously designed to be cheap transport, but it does its job very well. I still enjoy driving it, because I can rev it through the gears and still be socially responsible - nothing breaks and it uses very little fuel.
city driving is 7 litres/100Km, highway is 5.0-5.5 litres/100Km (52-57 UK mpg)
