1986 Peugeot 205 GTi review from UK and Ireland
"Pocket go cart"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The engine block was cracked by a stone at 112000 miles so a reconditioned engine was fitted, wasn't to expensive at £750 considering that the old one wasn't any good.
A new steering rack was fitted at 120000 miles for an mot what a diference it made.
Alternator went at 145000 miles closely followed by the starter motor.
Other than that not much else.
General comments?
The re-con engine seam to make the car so good it was unbelievable and I was right after getting the engine number check by peugeot for something else the came back saying that it was a 1.9 instead of the 1.6 that it was meant to be.
Regularly beat other 205 1.9s
once beat a golf 16v gti that was heavily modified that guy was very red faced.
All the legends about the car are true including the lift off over steer which was great fun and predictable.
Interiors are a bit flimsy though
would recommend one to any one who considers them selves a car nut.
