2001 Land Rover Range Rover SE 4.6 from North America

Summary:

Never again!!!

Faults:

Always wanted to own one. Should have done more homework on them; owned many vehicles in my time and a number of SUVs. Range Rover was hands down the worst of all. Completely unreliable, and not anything special off road either.

Still have it, still drive it, pretty much a money pit. Make sure you have a good running vehicle on the side.

Have replaced the entire suspension to coil springs and shocks due to constant airbags leaking.

4 (yes 4) heater cores; had to bypass that issue altogether by not having it on the vehicle any more.

And now the kicker; every few days the transmission locks you in park so you can't drive it due to some safety feature with the lit 'ABS' light on the instrument panel.

General Comments:

Stay far away from them.

2001 Land Rover Range Rover SE V8 4.6 from North America

Summary:

Pricey, but great

Faults:

Usual wear and tear.

General Comments:

Love the RR and recommend PRE Ford owned (2002 or older) Range Rovers. Brutal on gas, but its the best SUV in the world.

2001 Land Rover Range Rover HSE 4.6 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A comfortable and classy family car with the ability to go off-road

Faults:

Fan Clutch Replaced.

Air suspension leaked and required servicing under warranty.

Headlight wipers don't work.

Brake pads require replacing every 10,000 to 12,000 km, and front and rear disks required replacing at 50,000 km.

Fuel pump replaced.

General Comments:

Good British 4wd with class.

Not as reliable and higher running costs than a Toyota Landcruiser.

Beware of dealers "over-servicing" with things like pollen filters, air cleaners and wiper blades.

HUGE depreciation in the first 4 years (approx 66%).

2001 Land Rover Range Rover HSE V8 from North America

Summary:

As overpriced as it is, the maintenance is still more expensive

Faults:

Automatic door locks won't unlock.

Navigation system broke at 1000k and dealer couldn't fix it.

Rear brakes seized.

Transmission was, and still is, stuck in 2nd gear, alternately awaiting repair or replacement for 2 months!

Adjustable suspension blew at the lowest setting.

Front passenger's side speaker rattled loose.

Oil leaks and burns like this engine had 200,000km!

General Comments:

The most unreliable car I've ever owned, and I've owned Alfas, a restored Maserati and lemon Benz. By all accounts, my experience with the Range is typical; it's not a lemon.

I bought this vehicle because I wanted the ultimate on off-road capability, with the added luxury and prestige that I didn't have with the Land Cruiser.

The car is more luxurious and prestigious, but even at its best it wouldn't be as capable as my old vehicle. Given how often it breaks down, it's amazing that people dare to take it out of their driveways, never mind on off-roading trips.

If you want something off that will go where you want it to go and have enough luxury to make many happy, go with a Jeep.

2001 Land Rover Range Rover 4.6 SE from North America

Summary:

Best and most capable truck in the world.

Faults:

Seats rock slightly now and then - Dealer fixes it when needed.

General Comments:

Best vehicle I have ever owned. It's a real treat to drive it every day. Wouldn't trade it for anything else other than a newer model. I have owned and driven many different vehicle makes and the Land Rover Range Rover is the best, hands down.
