1969 Toyota Corolla Wagon review from Japan
"Wouldn't give her up for the world"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Engine used some oil when first purchased; still had a lot of power, though.
Burnt a valve at 380,000mi.
Swapped in a 1.3L.
4 speed transmission had no syncromesh when purchased.
Swapped in a 5 speed.
Drum brakes were horrible, so I modified Starlet struts to fit; now I have disc brakes.
General comments?
The Corolla has good power in lower elevations, it had a lot more when I had the Weber carb. on it. I lost a lot of power with the injection.
It gets good mileage; about 26mpg running hard.
I installed air conditioning and cruise control, making this car the perfect road trip vahicle.
I welded up the rear windows making it a panel.
I found this car when I was 15, I kept bugging the old man who owned it for 9 years until he finally sold it to me.
