1992 Chevrolet Silverado K2500 HD 4x4 review from North America

Towed to dealer 3x in first 2 weeks, this turned out to be the rear fuel pump ground was never hooked up! It took two dealerships 4 tries to figure it out.

Warped rear rotors from day one.

Transmission died after about 15k miles. It was replaced.

The second transmission died at 90k miles.

Front end alignment was bad from day one.

The front seat (60/40) stopped automatically releasing (to pull forward) after a couple of years. Now you have to feel for the cam. I would have preferred a simple lever, but somebody had a "better idea".

Alternator failed at 30k, due to a failed rear bushing.

The second alternator died at about 100k, with the same failure. The alternator they tried to sell me still had the same issue, after all this time! This time I purchased a heavy duty after-market one.

The circuit board that controls the windshield wipers is made of very cheap material (the cheapest you can use) and sits inside the wiper motor housing. It is hot and always covered in grease. I have replaced it 3 times now. I noticed they have not changed this design in the newer trucks. Do they care?

At about 90k miles my engine started leaking oil. This turned out to be the intake manifold.

The radiator was repaired at about 50k miles and had to be replaced at about 100k.

The radio acts up occasionally, then after a week or so it fixes itself...?

It rides and handles very well. Certainly better than the Fords and Dodges that I drove. I also really like the way it looked.

It was much more heavy duty than it's competition, at the time. Mine is a heavy duty model. The frame and suspension were clearly heavier than the competition.

The steering wheel is not centered with the seat! Why did they think that is OK?

The windshield wipers take a pass across the windshield before the washer pump engages. This grinds and smears whatever is on the windshield all over it. Why did they think that was a good idea? The new ones have the same "feature".

It seems to me that Chevy does not learn from their mistakes and does nothing to improve or correct known problems.

I am now looking for a new truck and I am not even considering a Chevy.
