2000 Nissan Primera Sport 1.8 16v petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Reliable and long lasting!

Faults:

Mostly wear and tear over the 20 years I had it. No major problems. If I am being picky - the drivers window failed, but it was a cheap easy repair. Blew bulbs often, but no big deal, auto electrician had a look but could not find anything wrong.

Never changed the clutch, but it was juddery in my last year of ownership.

Rust was becoming a problem, but it was 24 years old when I scrapped it!

General Comments:

A fantastically simple and reliable car from Nissan and I wish cars as good as this were still made!

1.8 was a punchy engine and did around 37 mpg. The car was fun to drive, sharp handling. Ride a little firm but not uncomfortably so.

Spacious modern interior for its time.

Boot was huge, never a problem getting stuff in.

Hard to say much more, it was just a great car, honestly would have kept it another few years, but at its age and mileage, it was difficult to justify putting it through another MOT, it was not worth much by then. But I sure got my monies worth out of this car! No way will anything more modern be as cost effective and long lasting as this car was!

2000 Nissan Primera S 1.8 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Simple, reliable, loved it

Faults:

Brakes and suspension required a lot of work, but that is expected of the age and mileage.

Windows stuck.

Small oil leaks, not serious.

Exhaust, battery.

Paintwork a bit faded in final years, but no major rust.

General Comments:

This Primera was a simple and reliable car I had a while ago. Wish they still made cars like this.

1.8 S model was as basic as it gets, but the car made up for its dullness with good reliability and comfort. Quite good to drive as well. Ride a bit firm though.

Cheap to run for its time, service and repairs were always reasonable. 1.8 petrol engine did 35 - 40 mpg.

Traded it for a Peugeot 407 and what a mistake that was! Had the Primera 10 years with no major issues. Never had a more reliable car since!

2000 Nissan Primera SE 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

One of Nissan's best

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This car was leased to me for only a couple of years a long while back, but I managed to clock up a decent mileage in it. Nothing went wrong as expected with a nearly new car. Knew someone who had one long term (over 10 years) and nothing major went wrong other than general maintenance like oil changes and so on.

The 2000 model Primera was a slight update from the long running famous 90's model that was well known to be a good handling car, and this one was just as sharp to drive. Excellent road holding, and the 2.0 engine gave good performance while doing nearly 40 MPG.

Very comfortable to be in; the ride was slightly firm if I'm being really picky, but that was my only complaint. Light blue with alloy wheels and a good spec (electric windows, etc) on this Active model. One good looking car and when you still see some about to day it's hard to believe they are around 15 years old; still seems very modern and fresh.

In conclusion I would have another Primera in a heartbeat, but they did not make this one for long and updated it in 2002 I think to an all new model that was a drastic change cosmetically, which I did not like, but was apparently also a decent car. Would love another even today, Nissan should make the Primera again with a throwback to the 90s styling cues. The family saloon/hatchback is still going strong, so why did they discontinue the Primera back in 2006? Come on Nissan, make another!

Just a quick note on my review, it was the SE spec not Activ (it was quite a while ago I had this car!) The 2.0 engine was not available on Activ spec if I recall. Mind you, it doesn't really matter, both are good engines and very similar in performance and interior options, really the only Primeras to avoid are the basic 1.6 S models.
