Faults:

Voltage regulator on alternator stopped working, causing everything to overcharge and cut out. Replaced the alternator for $60.

Drive belt snapped. $26 to replace.

General Comments:

This is the 2nd of this generation Ford I've owned, and I quite like it for its comfort and equipment levels.

Although I find the engine to be underpowered in some instances, it will still outperform a lot of vehicles while towing a fully loaded trailer.

This particular model handles funny, sort of like it was on a pivot in the middle of the road. Very easy to lose rear wheel traction, and some cases of understeer in wet conditions without the right tyres on the car.

I find it to be an ample family car, although the boot space has much to be desired being a sedan.

Climate control is excellent to have on board, but the air conditioning doesn't get as cold as Holdens or some Japanese makes. On extremely hot days you have to take it off auto mode, close the vent and crank the fan right up.

Overall I would purchase another Ford in the future as they are built for Australian conditions. If you're looking for a car to tow with, then this is the one.

Faults:

Ignition lock/mechanism broke at 250k. Cost me $400.

Ash tray has fallen apart.

Front seats quite uncomfortable.

Climate control air con is broken.

Headlights fading badly.

Electric windows play up constantly. Especially the passenger side.

Drivers seat broken underneath; needs to be held together when sliding back and forth.

General Comments:

A good car overall, but not very reliable. The engine stalls when cold, e.g. at traffic lights.

Air bag warning light has come on for months now.

Hard to control in the wet.

Brake lights come on and off as they please; constantly blowing bulbs.

Climate control air conditioning plays up a lot.

Really, really bad fuel economy.

Passenger side electric window is stuffed.

Smartlock central locking plays up a lot.

Faults:

When purchased the car it needed new head gasket as is the case with a lot of e-series falcons, however this was more to the previous owner not taking the best care.

Once that was fixed slight idol solinoid issue that was repaired easily. since the car has run beautifully.

General Comments:

It is comfortable smooth (for its age) and has ample performance for the quick stuff and towing.

I have added myself full 2.5inch exhaust and extracors at parts cost of about $550. The engine now has more kick and a great note.

The cars trans started out leaving me a bit uneasy, however with a trans fluid change is running as smooth as it did the day it was built.

I will agree I have been lucky and that there are bad eggs out there, but as a whole the car has treated me well.

My only really bad comment is on 2 issues, firstly I drive a wagon and must say the rear ride hight is far to great over the front end. secondly fuel consumption can be a little high, when compared to the Vr of that era, however I say it is a measly fee for a much more smooth refined vehicle.

Faults:

The electric antenna doesn't go up and down. The air conditioning sometimes comes out hot at the rear vents even though temperature set in climate control is low. All brake lights don't always work.

General Comments:

This is a beautiful car to look at and drive. The engine although done considerable mileage, is responsive and hasn't missed a beat. The handling is sharp and precise, great car to own and drive.

Faults:

The factory tyres (Eagle GA) were the wrong for the car causing it to spin out by 2 different drivers on separate occasions.

The driver's window doesn't go down or shut properly causing wind noises through the car.

The buttons on the auto air conditioner only sometimes work.

General Comments:

This car has disappointing performance for an engine of this size. For example a VTEC Integra kicked the crap out of it in a drag off (and the Police drive these cars...?)

Watch the brake lights come on, on the cars in front as they see you approaching in the rear vision mirror!

I don't like cornering too fast in the car as the tail feels loose around bends.

There is too much creaky plastic around the interior of the car which makes it feel really low-quality.

In the wet it is almost impossible to drive as the rear tyres refuse to grip to the road!

The doors are really thick which makes the car feel solid and durable.
