2000 Ford Falcon AU Series1 4.0

Summary:

Yet Another Well Built, Well Made Aussie Legend

Faults:

Had very few problems with the vehicle initially, had to have the brake pads replaced after 2000km as they were too soft and was havoc trying to keep the alloy wheels clean.

Has been back to the Dealer 3 times only due to manufacturer recalls. apart from that no problems at all.

General Comments:

Just needs to be Loved! This car looks great and if you didn't want to spend the extra $7000+ on the XR models, the S pack is the perfect model. Sports interior and all the gadgets make the drive fun and enjoyable. Guzzles juice in the city, but makes up for it cruising on the highway. handling is excellent in the wet and grips corners well.

Accelaration when the vehicle is cold tends to be sluggish, but makes up for it when the vehicle warms up. This is my 2nd Falcon after having owned a 97 EL, I'm definitely in Line to purchase a BA XR next year.

2000 Ford Falcon AU Forte 4.0L Straight Six Dedicated LP

Summary:

It's a beast, too much sometimes

Faults:

Found that inside tread on front wheels has disappeared, but the rest of the tire has fine tread.

Strange rubbing feeling when cruising sometimes.

Rear right speaker can't handle bass at low volumes, it distorts.

Otherwise there haven't been any other mechanical problems with it.

General Comments:

This car is an absolute dream to drive, except in the wet.

This car produces 148Kw of power and 368 pound of torque. These 2 things combined make it a great combination for spinning wheels, and in the wet, that means you're going to spin around a few times. I'm just glad there hasn't been anyone on the road when I've happened to spin out.

It has a beautiful interior, and comfortable seats, but on long drives they can become a strain. Plenty of leg space, front and back. The dashboard couldn't look much better, excellent easy to read dials and remote for the stereo on the steering wheel.

The exterior styling is beautiful.

Being a dedicated gas car makes running costs very very low. AU$7/100km's, and that's city driving. On long drives you can double the k's, that's about 200ks/AU$7. That's only a quarter of a tank being used. It has a 92L tank, and that means boot size is made smaller, but the boot is still huge!

But I would have to say the worst feature of this car is its ability to lose traction. Turning corners is a nightmare, wet or dry. I find it's best not to use the accelerator coming out of corners, as the rear end likes to spin out on you.

I love my new car, but some times I really wish I had an AWD car or something with a bit less torque.

Of course this car may not have these problems with a more experienced driver.

(I'm 19 and on my P's)

Sheesh you must be giving it some real stick comming out of corners to get it to spin like that. I've driven more than a few km's in an AU and only found the car to be tail happy when really pushed. Try working on your power delivery and you'll find the AU 6 cylinder a real pleasure to work with. Personally I love the AU's six.
