1998 Lexus GS 300 3.0 Litre 6

Summary:

Old Gold

Faults:

Nothing really, some of the text on the CD player only shows half, but it is still readable.

General Comments:

This car is just amazing; if you're on a budget and want a luxury car - this is it.

I test drove a 2000 BMW E46 318i, and this thing was several thousand cheaper, and honestly the build quality is night and day.

Just hop in the Lexus, the seats are massive & very comfortable. Electric everything, which still 12 years later works fine. The engine will go forever, being a Toyota.

The Lexus GS300 has everything; a brilliant stock sound system, dual climate control, seat memory... it's fully loaded.

For an older car, it is just amazing. Boot space is huge, the doors make that nice clunk quality when you close them, airbags, 6 stacker CD, cruise, auto lights, fuel economy is good, relative to how you drive it.

Power is not massive, but it's not a sports car, it's a cruiser; you feel like you don't want to rush anywhere, as you're enjoying the drive.

Everyone in the car is comfortable, and there is loads of room. It really is a great vehicle, and I hate cars... (true).

If you find a nice one, buy it - you won't regret it!!!

2004 Lexus GS 300 3.0

Summary:

Luxurious, trouble free motoring with absolutely brilliant value

Faults:

Nothing yet! Everything works like a charm.

When people cannot fault my GS300, they just make themselves feel good by labelling it a Toyota. Getting sick of that. Lexus is a separate financial division in its own right with its own Research & Development. Besides, what’s wrong with a Toyota?

General Comments:

This is an extremely fast car, from start to stop.

Nice handling except for a condition (Tramming) where the wheels seems to follow the grooves of the road a bit, causing the steering wheel to wander. GS300 loves the M4, M5 and hates Parramatta Road.

I've driven an E240 and a BMW 7 series. The GS300 seems to get from A to B much smoother, quicker, silently, and at half the cost of European offerings. Clearly it must be their relentless pursuit of perfection.

I agree with the tramming effect, but apart from that, it has a great value engine, which is as smooth as; so much so you can't even hear or feel it.

Excellent stereo system and comfortable driving position with easy to use navigation system.

2000 Lexus GS 300 3.0 V6

Summary:

Comfort, Reliable, reasonable cost; handling can be improved

Faults:

Nothing really, only the left headlamp cover is not as transparent as the other side after I got the car for 3 month, Lexus dealer replace a brand new one for me without any cost, good services.

General Comments:

Compare to my previous GT3000, GS is really a great car. The first reason is comfortable and quite. Second reason, they provide a good service, you spend much less for inspections and services than the other cars in this class for example 5-series and E-class. Third reason is reliable, this car is just reliable as Lexus claimed, I mean what else do you want from a car?

On the other side, the front tyres seems wear much faster than 5-series and E-class. The VSC system activated too frequently thus helps too much when you drive, try the new model 06 GS, they solve this problem. But the handling is not as good as those European cars. I think I will move to the LS, the top line in Lexus for my next car.

2005 Lexus GS 300 V6

Summary:

Better than I expected

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Did not want to buy a new GS, as my 1998 GS was still doing the job, and other than the radio dial fading on my first 2 Lexus, I have not spent a cent, and was able to get an exchange radio after 5 years, which was a plus.

My wife decided she wanted a new gold one, and it has turned out better than I expected.

A small point that no salesman pointed out was that when you opened up a door, the rubber strip on the bottom of the door stopped the door hitting the wall.

I too presently own a 2000 model GS300, which I've owned since new, driven for 130,000kms without any problems. I love the new style GS, but appears that the interior quality isn't as good as the previous generation. Still a superior vehicle when compared to many of the leading European marques.

I have to agree with all here. I'd purchased a 1999 GS 300 brand new as a gift after my retirement, still driving today with over 210,000kms, and apart from scheduled services or wear and tear items, nothing has ever gone wrong. Very well made, and a joy to drive. Eats up the miles, even after seven hours behind the wheel.

1998 Lexus GS 300

Summary:

Germans should watch out

Faults:

Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with this car. Superbly built. Leaves the reliability and quality of my two previous BMW's (328i & M3) for dead!

Service costs are half that of my previous BMW'S.

General Comments:

Does everything asked from it.

Extremely comfortable to drive. Not a high performance sports car, but very good all round car.

I have just bought a Lexus GS3000 with 140k miles on the clock. I am very impressed with the car, but I would like comments about the 'ride'.

It seems to 'roll' more than my previous cars (BMW, Volvo, Mecedes). Especially on minor roads. Is this normal? Do I just need to get used to the car?
