1998 Nissan Terrano II TI 2.7 turbo diesel

Summary:

Faultless, love it

Faults:

Bought the Terrano from a single owner, who serviced it every 5000 km. Everything was perfect. I've had it for more than 3 years and I will keep it until it dies. Starts first go always, and idles and runs like new! No black smoke, the air con is still cold, and it cruises at 120 kph super quiet, just like a petrol engine.

Next service is at 300.000. Apart from an oil and filter change, it's cost me nothing in repairs. Apparently still the original clutch. Excellent towing vehicle; I cruise with a 1.4 ton caravan at 100 kph effortlessly.

I uses on average 10 litres/100km. Under tow 12-13.

General Comments:

Best 4WD I ever had.

1995 Nissan Terrano II 2.7 turbo diesel

Summary:

Great SUV for its money

Faults:

The only problems I have had is that the bushes on the trailing arms had worn badly and the electric aerial has stopped working.

This car does not handle as well as other brands of SUV.

General Comments:

The SUV works great off road. I took it on a offroad trip and it out preformed my freinds Landcruiser.

I use the vehicle for towing at least very third day and have never had a problem. The engine is very reliable.

1997 Nissan Terrano II Ti turbo diesel

Summary:

Very impressive 4WD

Faults:

Air Flow Meter has failed at 120000km.

General Comments:

The Terrano 2 performs like a bigger 4WD and will go anywhere.

Very comfortable and good to drive on road and off road.

4WD performance very impressive, handling terrain that stuck Jeep and Landcruisers.

Great size, same length as full 4WD, but 1/2 seat narrower and lighter.

1998 Nissan Terrano II TI 2.7 turbo diesel

Faults:

Electric window motor failed at 78 000 Km (Plastic part) and plastic slider for the window guide.

Both very expensive!

Vehicle is quite a bit of lacking power at the moment and reading info on the net it could be the Air Sensor, again expensive!

Suffer with high engine tenperature. when working off road in summer.

Seats are a bit hard.

1997 Nissan Terrano II Ti 2.7 intercool turbo

Summary:

Good all rounder 4WD for the family

Faults:

Radio makes interference noise through radio station which is coming from the C. D player.

Lack of power could be from air flow mass sensor dirty, clean, make sure air cleaner is change every 12 months.

Accelerator pedal sticking, pull apart and clean and clean all wire connections to accelerator pedal assembly.

General Comments:

Neat compact 4WD capable of doing what the big 4WD's can do if not better.

The Nissan Terrano II should have been recalled to fix the problems that most Terrano owner's are having.

Apart from the little problems it is a fantastic medium size 4WD.

1998 Nissan Terrano II TI 2.7 TD

Summary:

A great vehicle to drive - on and off road

Faults:

Front bumper mount broke on Gibb River Road.

Air flow motor died at 40,000 km, but just out of 3 year warranty.

Bush around gear lever broke and lever went sloppy (still able to select gears)

Clutch fluid hose leaking around connection block (underneath vehicle)

General Comments:

All in all I have really enjoyed owning this vehicle and look forward to keeping it for a few more years.

Biggest disappointment was the air flow meter and subsequent poor service from the the manufacturer and dealer. This fault occurs with all Terrano 2's and should have been a recall.

After much complaining, Nissan finally sold me the air flow meter at half price - $600.00 instead of $1200.00.

If you are lucky enough not to have lost your air flow meter yet, start knocking very loudly on the dealers door and may I wish you the best of luck.

If you have to purchase one yourself Coventry's or Repco can source one from Bosch in Germany (5-7 days delivery) for $313.00 plus $88.00 freight. (price quoted June 2003) Makes my 1/2 price of $600.00 look a bit sad doesn't it.

Looking at towing a camper or small van around Australia with this vehicle soon, able to tow in excess of 2000kg, but tow-ball weight of 100kg is a bit of a restriction.

I am an Australian resident and own a Terrano which has done 156k. I have had similar minor problems, Broken bumper brackets, blown clutch hose, blown rear brake hose, cracked left engine mount, fractured battery lead, broken gear lever retaining ring. In general I am very happy with the vehicle and about to do the 160k service, will replace front brake hoses now before they blow and the disc rotors as they are worn to the limit, otherwise all is excellent!!!

PS. I have just done 10k in the top end of Australia including a stint on the Gibb River Rd, that's about the time my front bumper brackets broke!!!
