1998 Toyota Camry Vienta VXI petrol 3L V6

Summary:

Great family car

Faults:

Nothing. I have replaced a set of tires and battery as a matter of normal wear and tear.

General Comments:

A great car, reasonably comfortable for a small family, great fuel economy on the open road, a little heavy on fuel around town.

I have previously owned BMW 3 series and Mercedes C180 and had major mechanical problems with both cars from new. Absolutely no problems with the Toyota.

1998 Toyota Camry 2.2 GL Wagon 2.2 petrol

Summary:

Great low-performance family wagon

Faults:

Nothing at all.

General Comments:

Very spacious and comfortable whether on the open road or stuck in traffic.

The 2.2 engine does not have enough grunt for this size of car.

Very low equipment levels (wind-up windows and manual aerial!).

1998 Toyota Camry Conquest 3L, V6

Summary:

Reliable

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Bought this care because it scored the highest on a reliability survey in Australia's choice magazine. Whilst not a particularly attractive car, on the outside or inside, I'm very happy with it functionally. It also got a good score for passenger and driver protection in case of an accident.

I have to agree. The comfort and noise levels are fantastic! I test drove a 98 Holden Commodore and the Ford Falcon (both 6 cylinders) and while the v6 Camry didn't have quite the same amount of power, the quietness and smoothness of the car won me over. I bought the Camry Conquest straight away and I have never had any problems. The Motorama Dealer in Brisbane Queensland was fantastic, I would recommend them to any one.

1998 Toyota Camry Vienta VXI V6 petrol

Summary:

A great family car

Faults:

Condensate leaked into the front passenger foot well. The dealer rectified this problem by replacing the seal in the air conditioner condensate box. Work was performed under warranty at 56000kms. This included drying the carpets and cleaning them.

A short time later a shudder was noticed in the disk brakes. The dealer told me that this is a common problem in all Camrys. Disks replaced under warranty, brake pads replaced at my expense.

General Comments:

A great car.

Economical to run on highway cycle. However a little thirsty around town.

Enough room for a family of four plus luggage.

Yes, I would own another one.

1998 Toyota Camry Conquest 3.0 V6 petrol

Summary:

Refined, smooth and comfortable touring

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Totally reliable; engine beautifully smooth and quiet; smooth automatic; seats more comfortable than they first feel, can spend all day in comfort; impressive performance.

Attrociously huge turning circle; ground clearance poor at approach and departure, adequate over humps; high road noise for rear seat passengers - strains conversation with front seat;

Would definitely buy again if turning circle was significantly improved.
