1992 Acura Integra RS

Summary:

A very good car for a student/single person if you can find one for a good deal

Faults:

Muffler badly rusted.

General Comments:

Very reliable.

Good vehicle for commuting.

Not very comfortable for long road trips.

Good acceleration for a small car, but you definitely notice loss of power with passengers (what do you expect? It's just a 4 cylinder).

Difficult to access the oil filter if you are doing your own oil changes.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Have you had problems with your timing belt?

I`m looking at buying a 92 with 152000kms for 5000$ Canadian (automatic, black, RS).

How about the rust? Be very honest, please! (0-10).

I just got my RS 92, basic one. It has some minor rust on it, but nothing you that can't deal with. The car is in very good shape. I paid $4000 (all incl.) Can't wait to get this baby on the road!

Nothing really, just had to replace the lights that burned out.

General Comments:

This is my favourite car, it loves to race. Revving it makes a little too much noise, but what can you do, it's a racing car.

This car is pretty reliable to me. I have gone through two accidents since I had it, both times the insurance company told me it was totaled, bought it back, put about $500 into it after both accidents and it still runs fine. I never had to replace and parts (besides the regular maintenance parts) besides the parts I broke from the accidents. When I bought it, it had 100000 miles on it, it now had 185000, two accidents, still runs fine!

Summary:

Who needs a Turbo when you can have VTEC?

Faults:

Not much. The starter is getting a little picky and the CV joints were replaced last Summer. The stator coil (clutch for the air conditioning) broke its alignment pin, and kept blowing the fuse. Two hours of my time and a grinded screw fixed the problem.

General Comments:

The 8000 rpm redline is very addictive. This engine loves to rev. Very little low end torque. Loves to be driven on twisty mountain roads. Should have been sold originally with 15" wheels instead of those 14" wheels.

This car surprises most V8 drivers with its acceleration.

Genuine Honda reliability.

VTEC is nothing like a turbo.

In response to both of the above comments:

These responses are harsh. The writer of the review never claimed that the Honda VTEC engine is like having a turbo.

Although both increase power output from a given engine, both act differently. For example, a turbo is good for boosting engine torque at low engine speeds, whereas you'll need to take a VTEC engine at least above 4,000 rpm to gain the benefits.

Of course, the VTEC engines won't deliver all the advantages of a turbo and vice versa. You have to weigh up the merits of each.
