2000 Acura TL 3.2

Summary:

Nice car with a disappointing transmission

Faults:

The transmission has been very disappointing. I now need a third transmission. The first transmission was a recall at 30,000. Then at 70,000, I needed another transmission, and then at 161,000, I now need another transmission. I have only driven on the highway, and take really good care of the car and have never missed a service or oil change.

The service on the car has been good, but I feel very strongly that Acura should recognize the transmission problems with the TL models and try to make it right. I now either have to get a new car, or pay another 4000 for a transmission. Not sure what to do at this point. I don't think that I will buy another Acura because of the problems that I have had with transmissions.

General Comments:

The service people have been very nice.

The performance of the transmission has been disappointing.

2000 Acura TL 3.2

Summary:

Good car, bad transmissions!

Faults:

Transmission went out at 121k.

Broken motor mount.

General Comments:

It is a nice car and has all the comforts, but the transmission has issues. I got two different quotes on transmission replacements. 3,200 Acura dealer. 2,700 private shop. I got a guy in Alabama; he fixed it for 300.00, it was some kind of solenoid.

2000 Acura TL 3.2

Summary:

Awesome

Faults:

Actually I must be the luckiest person to own 2000 TL.

The only thing is if I do not wait for transmission to engage completely to drive, the car stalls.

General Comments:

The only I don't like is the driver's seat. For some reason, it's not comfortable at all.

The ransmission always seems to hesitating, however it works. My shifter in winter time requires high effort to shift out of park to drive.

I have news for your, your transmission is going to go south in the next few thousand miles. I have a 1999 and the car has 150K miles on it. When you think about if your car is like mine, $3,000 for a transmission isn't bad if its the only repair you have ever had to have done!

2000 Acura TL

Summary:

Very solid, comfortable, reliable car

Faults:

Both of the seat heaters in the driver's seat (there are 2, one in the back, and one in the seat) burned out by around 70000 miles.

The rear-view mirror dimmer function has started to fade, so that the area that gets dimmed no longer covers the entire mirror. This area started to fade at around 80000 miles, and has slowly expanded so that now nearly half of the mirror is no longer dimmed. I do, however, run with the dimmer feature on constantly.

The passenger side-airbag light frequently comes on if something (not a person) is sitting on the passenger seat. People will also sometimes cause this if they are sitting in the seat at a strange angle. I believe this is because the sensor (which is in the passenger seat back) is a tad too sensitive.

General Comments:

Car drives very well. It has reasonable pickup for a car with 220 HP, it handles well, especially in emergency conditions. Handling gives confidence to the driver.

Excellent comfort for the front two seats. Back seat legroom gets pretty cramped for adults if the front seats aren't slid pretty far forward. Enough space for tall people (6'5"+).

Reasonable sound system. Road noise is kept to a minimum except over bad roads.

Excellent visibility! No noticeable blind spots in this car.

Very reliable. I have never had the car fail to start on the first try, or die unexpectedly in the four years I have owned it.

2000 Acura TL

Summary:

I like the Acura TL

Faults:

I have a 2000 Acura TL, Recently The transmission started making a fast rattling noise when the I'm driving, but when I let off the gas it goes away. I does this fast rattle when I have the gas at a steady rpm doing any where between 5 mph to 65/70 mph. Acura said I need a new transmission, but they won't tell me what is is that is making the noise. Any suggestions of what it might be?
