1986 BMW 3 Series 325 es 2.7

Summary:

Super fun

Faults:

When I bought this car for $2500 I spent another $3000 to bring it back to reliable condition. New Nokian NRW tires all around, new battery, changed ALL fluids, new front struts, brakes, tuneup, muffler, plugs, had oil pan gasket reset. I did some minor repairs myself, new taillight gaskets, new drivers handle, replaced back interior panel added a new Blaupunkt head unit.

General Comments:

I hope I made the right decision to put all this money into this car, body is in good condition and I love to drive it. Performs like a champ, corners great, gets up when I need it too. Nice and small for the city and feels like a tank on the highway. Super clean styling and still looks like a million bucks. There is no way I could afford a newer BMW model, this was a perfect way to enjoy having a quality car at an affordable price. Has some quirks with the maintenece lights, but once you learn to ignore it all is well. I think I found a good independant BMW mechanic to help keep it going, for around $6000 I have a car that should last me another 5 yrs.

1986 BMW 3 Series 325 2.7L

Summary:

This car is worth every penny spent on it and I intend on driving it to the max

Faults:

When I acquired the car, it was in excellent shape. There was no rust throughout the entire car, the engine was immaculate, and the handling was superb. Along with these advantages, I will also admit there have been a few problems as well.

I have noticed that the driver's side window sticks when trying to roll it down. Not a major problem, just something that can get on one's nerves a little.

For the sunroof I have had problems with the crank because it doesn't want to stay up when I am finished using the sunroof.

When I park the car and put one the parking brake, sometimes it slips out and rolls out of the driveway. Luckily, this has only happened twice before, and it might be due to my own error, but every time I use it, I pull it up all the way.

General Comments:

When I am driving this car, it is such a rush. The speed and handling are great for a car of that age. Speed wise, I have gotten it up to about 125 miles per hour, although I know it will go further.

When driving it, the sound of the E30 engine is just sheer music to my ears. The way it hums when going down the road at low speed or the way it screams when at a higher RPM, I love this engine.

My 0-60 time is under seven and a half seconds, which is great but not a surprise for the racing engine.

If you put the small flap down with your left hand from the outside, the sunroof will close when you use the crank with your right hand. A small price to pay for perfection...Eamon

Summary:

I'm glad I didn't get that Civic

Faults:

The shifter is worn and needs replacing.

General Comments:

The car is quick and agile. It's like a cat on its tippy toes.

The low rev limit is a drag. Get used to shifting right after you start.

The bucket seats are nice when sitting forward, but when entering and exiting, it can hurt your butt.
