2000 Buick Century 3.1

Summary:

I feel it is not worth the $6000.00 I paid for it

Faults:

My transmission jerks when shifting.

The knobs on the heat/ac broke off.

The driver's window cable snapped in the middle of winter and fell in the door.

The electrical system seams to be going out on me.

The high-beams switch doesn't work. It will shut all my lights off when I'm trying to turn them on.

The AC works only on the driver's side only in the summer and the heat is coming out the passenger side. In the winter it works opposite.

The window buttons all stick and some times they don't let the window go down the window down or it sticks so bad it won't draw the window up.

The handle in the middle console broke and nobody sells the replacement piece.

General Comments:

It was a nice car till it started falling apart on me.

I would never buy another Buick again.

2000 Buick Century Custom

Summary:

Piece of crap!

Faults:

This car has been a nightmare from day one. A week after I purchased it (used) it started shifting really hard and continued to do this until I got it fixed. They said it was the pressure solenoid that needed to be replaced. Apparently this is a VERY common problem with this car. It was fine for a while and now the same problem is occurring. Something with the long shift adapter. The side panels inside the car are completely coming off also. This car was very cheaply made and I will NEVER buy a GM car Ever!! So don't waste your money people!

General Comments:

Worst car ever!

2000 Buick Century Custom 3.1

Summary:

No value for its cost

Faults:

Electronics

Wiper controls

Power windows

All the electronics seem low grade

The power window switch costs 90 dollars. It is junk, it will not last on any of the vehicles. The rubber gasket material within this switch crumbles and deteriorates, without ever being in adverse conditions. My guess is the cheap offshore manufacturer did not cure the rubber.

The reason for most electronics is they are cheaper to manufacture than the equivalent mechanical application. Well now they make the electronics cheap and flimsy, it is more cost effective for the manufacturer. The customer will just have to pay and pay, continually.

General Comments:

The suspension and the handling are very spongy. To the point of compromising safety. If you get into a slight emergency evasive procedure at highway speeds, you cannot tell what this car will do. It is completely unpredictable. Virtually no suspension to rely on. The vehicle is way too big and heavy for the suspension of this car.

Did you drive the car before you purchased it? If you did then your complaints about the suspension would have been clearly evident. I assume you don't remember cars of the 70's. The big luxury models often weighed more than 5,000 pounds and had softer suspensions than your Century. They are only unsafe if you don't know how to drive them carefully when needed. The soft, comfortable ride has long been one of Buick's best known qualities. There are still some that prefer a soft, "spongy" suspension over the washboard Honda you previously owned.

2000 Buick Century 6 cylinder

Summary:

I have never had so much trouble out of a car with so few miles

Faults:

Car would not start. Had it towed to a garage and they replaced the starter, but it still did not start easily. Took it to the dealer and they had to replace the computer system. This also froze up my am/ (FM) (CD).Part of the computer was still covered under warranty, but I still paid quite a bit to get it back on the road.

Both rear wheel cylinders went bad.

Transmission jerks hard when it shifts gears.

General Comments:

The car handled good and was good on gas.

I find this very interesting, as the 2000 Buick Centuries were rated very highly from Consumer Reports. Maybe your brake problem resulted from not driving the car enough (wheel cylinders seizing up). Dunno what to say about the computer problems though.

I myself am an owner of the 2000 Buick Century. I am now experiencing the same problems, the vehicle delays when starting & now the transmission is shifting very hard. I have been told by many mechanics that this shifting problem has been a common error with the 2000 Buicks, but yet the issue has not been fixed. I feel your frustration.
