2001 Buick Century SE 3.1

Summary:

A decent vehicle, but nothing on it is exceptional

Faults:

Driver seat foam broke down.

Exhaust system developed loud "clinking " after it warmed up.

Drivers side power window/lock cover plate kept popping up out of arm rest.

Heater control broke.

Check engine light, eventually let to several sensor replacements.

General Comments:

The car is roomy, very quiet and has a comfortable ride.

Engine is very responsive in the midrange/transmission operates very smoothly.

In glass radio antenna gives poor reception.

2001 Buick Century Custom

Summary:

My 1989 Taurus was tighter and smoother than this 2001 model car

Faults:

This was a rental I drove for a month.

The car eats a lot of gas.

It's cramped on the inside and wide on the outside.

Hard to get to the windshield wiper control.

The radio has nothing for you to rest your hand on while you switch stations.

Not many settings on the power seat.

Small sun visors.

Worst is the terrible, painful suction that happens when you are driving down the highway and unwittingly roll down the back windows! It hurts everyone's ears! Bad engineering defect!

And when stopped on a hill, the car rolls backwards quickly if you take your foot off the brake - I found this to be very dangerous, I almost hit someone.

Poor visibility out of the rear view mirrors.

Oddly angled steering wheel.

General Comments:

The car is attractive on the outside.

Clean body style, nice grill, sweet lines.

Very noisy AC - not strong - no good air to blow on your feet!

Noisy turn signals.

Some of the comments scare me about my nearly complete purchase of a used 2001 Buick Century Custom. It has 21,000 miles. I'm getting this car for $12,000. It's in great shape. Should I do it?

This is posted a long time from your post, but I hope you did buy the car. The primary post wasn't worth the time it took to post!! I wonder if the original poster has ever even driven a Century? Sounds like a Buick hater to me and I don't pay any attention to someone whose only experience with a car has been a rental as they are WORTHLESS!

I just purchased a 2001 Buick Century Custom and love it! It isn't as big as the 1994 Buick Regal I used to own, but I do find the Buick Century has a very comfortable and quiet ride and there is more room inside the car than the Regal had. I love the design of the interior and I find it to be a very nice looking car. The gas mileage I am getting is better than the gas mileage I got with the Regal. I have no regrets buying this car.

This review is one of the worst I've seen. I don't know how you can even get 18mpg out of this car. I get 25-27 in the city and 28-32 on the highway. The 2001 Buick Century is a Great car. You cannot find a better riding car in 2001 for the price of the Buick century.

I recently purchased my first Buick Century (2001) after bidding farewell to my '86 Volkswagen, thinking the Buick would be a gas guzzler. Much to my surprise and delight, I am getting 29 mpg! That is a mixture of freeway and city driving. I am very impressed. Add to that the smooth ride and handling, I would not hesitate to buy another Buick Century.

2001 Buick Century Limited 3.1 V6

Summary:

A nice ride at a reasonable price

Faults:

Remote door opener is inconsistent. May get interference from local radio towers.

General Comments:

Quieter than my Chrysler.

Feels as quick as the Chrysler even though it has a smaller engine.

Fuel consumption seems a little higher than the Chrysler.

A very comfortable car.

Moderate finish quality. No problems, just not very exciting.
