2000 Buick Park Avenue Ultra Supercharged 3.8
Rocketship meets Lazy-Boy
I have been a Buick owner since our '93 LeSabre Presidential, and have been satisfied with the overall value and quality for the past ten years.
I tried out several Park Aves while shopping around, but as soon as I tried a new 2003 Ultra, I was amazed at the difference in performance that the combination of the supercharger/GT suspension provides (and they are standard with the Ultra package).
I looked around for a 2-3 year old Ultra and found a 2000 in brand-new condition. No Onstar, power roof, or ultrasonic back-up assist, but the price was right-on for a pristine Ultra.
Bottom line is that this car is the most comfortable, feature-rich, practical sleeper on the market today. It definately is a step in the right direction for Buick. Time will tell how reliable the electrical system is, and I hope it is improved over the 1993 models.
The only thing I have a problem with is the horrible center console assembly, which is so bad it must have came as an afterthought when this car was designed. Just try to balance a cup of coffee in the cup holders and you'll see what I mean. I noticed that they have corrected this for the 2003's.
Just got back from a 700 mile round trip, and checked in at around 27 MPG. Very impressive for a two-ton car with 240+ horses under the hood.
I paid 17K for a car that, for all intents and purposes, now sells for around 40 thousand dollars new.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Can the later (2003) centre console be interchanged with that on the earlier model and hence no coffee spilt?
Thank you in advance for any replies, and thank you too for another great review. I'm beginning to want Ultra already.

We have a 2000 Park Ave. not an Ultra... but it has some Ultra options, like the Rain Sense. It is a sweet ride. We only have 72K on that car.
Yes they ride very well. Even the regular Park Ave has enough power when you need it. Also if you do not hammer on the accelerator then you will get 30mpg easy. I love our Park. I added a satellite radio and wow... nice through the stock sound system.
Another beautiful thing about a big old Buick... it is like driving your Sofa down the road... and also the police just do not "see" it. It has a built in "Cloaking Device"...hehe.
