1991 Buick Regal Gran Sport 3.8L V6

Summary:

Big, comfortable, deceptively fast domestic

Faults:

Tripometer does not work.

Bad starter solenoid (replaced and now starter works every time).

Glove compartment latch broken.

Cam sensor malfunctioning, causing a check engine light.

Low fuel light occasionally comes on even when the car has plenty of gas.

Driver's seat cloth is torn.

General Comments:

Though I have only driven this car for about 6,000 miles, I have been happy with it. I bought it as a college beater; could not afford much else.

The styling was ahead of its time in 1991. Nice lines, side profile. I like the chrome siding and stock 17" rims.

The engine is tame, but can really put down power if you need it. Acceleration is great, much quicker than what you'd expect from such a big, heavy car.

The car is built like a tank. Strong, metal bumpers - no plastic nonsense here. Seems like it can take a collision like a champ. I feel safe when riding in it, even when surrounded by SUVs.

The drivers seat is very comfortable. I have made 6 hour road trips in this car and not felt any discomfort. Power drivers seat is a bonus, too.

Turning radius is a bit wider than I would like. The car does not corner well at moderate speed, has too much body lean. But then again, it's a sedan.

As others have stated, the brakes are not the greatest. They feel underpowered.

The ride is great. Very smooth. You don't feel bumps or rough roads at all.

I get about 18 mpg in town, 25 on the highway.

1991 Buick Regal 3.1

Summary:

Awesome car!

Faults:

Pick car up at an auction for $100; only needed 1 ball joint for safety.

Had to replace the oil pan seal and rear calipers at 112,000km.

Alternator at 120,000km.

General Comments:

Nice car, smooth ride, and very good on gas. Lots of power for a 6 cylinder.

Pretty cheap to own. Would buy again if I had the chance. The car got hit and totaled.

Great car for anyone.

1991 Buick Regal Limited 3.1

Summary:

I will never buy a Buick!!

Faults:

Head gasket needed to be replaced when I bought the car.

Paint is baked and has turned from white to a yellowish colour.

Muffler has been replaced recently, it had a bad rattling sound when accelerating.

Transmission clunks into gear when shifting.

Drivers side door wouldn't open for a while until it got fixed.

Back left window would stick when you try to put it back up.

Passenger window has trouble going up because weather stripping gets in the way.

Roof is rusting BADLY!

Chrome accessories are chipping and cloudy.

Did body work on the back left fender.

You can't boost from or too this car or the computer will mess up and she won't start or run right.

General Comments:

My parents gave my brother (who doesn't even know how to do an oil change) this car for free, and he put about $1000 worth of work and parts into this car. He got the work done by the local mechanic and some done at a scrap yard.

This car has let us down almost everyday, it is an embarrassment to be seen in. But the speakers were decent before they were blown!

The interior is very faded and the woody panels aren't attractive anymore. In it's day this car was decent, but being 10 years old this car is falling apart big time! Especially with my 18 year old brother driving it like a race car.

Well the car is 17 years old for one thing. Not ten. Obviously it was not taken care of over the years also. What do you expect?

I own a 91 Regal passed down from my Grandmother to my mom to me. I have had almost no problems, with any work done by my mechanic. Valve cover gaskets replaced (from original), passenger window got stuck after I went through a car wash ($200 repair). All in all, this has been a great car for my family.

I always get a laugh out of reviews that bash abused 20-year-old cars with several hundred thousand miles on them and say "I'll NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE!!" Our Buick was sold at 277,000 miles. It was flawless and never required a single repair.
