1991 Buick Regal Limited 3.8L

Summary:

Sporty, elegant, handles very well, good on gas

Faults:

1. the coil pack and module replaced

2. fuel filter replaced

3. timing gears and chain replaced

4. water pump replaced

5. muffler replaced

6. battery replaced

7. rear rotor replaced

8. rear disk brakes replaced

9. CO2 sensor replaced

10. fuel injectors cleaned.

I hope it runs after all this is finished. All the above parts have been installed in the last week, in an effort to get the car back onto the road. It has been sitting since last year when it suddenly quit running. Monday is D-day, if it still won't start it's going to the scrap yard.

General Comments:

It has one serious drawback: the large blind spot, thanks to the very wide roof support which cuts into the field of vision. This makes the car dangerous to drive on busy highways, unless you add some extra mirrors to improve your all round field of vision.

1991 Buick Regal Limited GS 3.8 liter V6

Summary:

Drive it even while its dying

Faults:

Brakes, brakes brakes. Two new rear rotors, rubber line collapsed and brakes locked up in back, and mostly just pads.

Tranny is going.

Struts are bad.

General Comments:

It's fast, but the transmission is just a bad match for the motor. I bought this car for 500, and I guess I've gotten my moneys worth, but it is all starting to get bad all at once. The brakes are just a nightmare, and now the trans is going.

This sounds like the scenario playing out on my 1991 Buick Regal GS. "Brakes, brakes, brakes" says it all. How GM ever got away without a recall on the 4-wheel disc braking systems on these cars is beyond me.

There was a class-action lawsuit filed against GM pertaining to the poor braking system. GM "chose" to settle the suit and reimburse the unfortunate GM owners for a portion of their brake system repair expenses. Of course, as part of the settlement, GM admitted no wrongdoing and only chose to settle the suit in order to avoid lengthy and costly litigation to prove there is nothing wrong with the braking systems. I received a generous fifty (50) dollars from GM as compensation for the nearly eight hundred (800) plus dollars I sunk into rear brake repairs on my Regal.

The rear calipers and parking brake cables regularly seize-up and require replacement. With this vehicle, there is no such thing as a simple installation of new rear disc brake pads. Anytime the rear pads need replacement, so do the locked-up calipers and frozen parking brake cables. This 1991 Regal has turned me anti-GM forever. To bring this car safely to a stop while driving, you are better off opening the driver's door and sticking your foot out than stepping on the brake pedal. Do yourself a favor, stay away from the 1991 Regal.

Normal problems from not being maintained for 14 years.

Needs new shocks.

General Comments:

Not a bad car at all. I bought it for $450, and its worth plenty more than that. The car does everything I need it to. It has power on command, handles great, and is one of the most comfortable cars to drive I have ever driven.

1991 Buick Regal Limited Coupe 3.8 V6

Summary:

Approaching luxury with high performance and comfort combined

Faults:

Nothing so far, but have only had the car three weeks. Everything is working on car as new. All the options and buttons are functioning as new.

General Comments:

I could not believe how quick this car was when I first drove it. The 3800 fuel-injected V-6 motor has a fantastic reputation for good reason.

The handling is superb for a car of this size and type (semi-luxury), the ride is quiet and smooth.

Acceleration is like a rocket - when you need the power it is there.

The dual-climate controls are very nice, as is the stereo in the steering wheel controls option.

The interior is comfortable with ample space (even in rear) and cavernous trunk. Leather seats are a nice touch and the AC blows cold as a new car would.

Interior lights provide separate dual-reading for driver and passenger, vanity lights with mirror in visor, auto dash lights on and 30 sec. delay off upon entrance and exiting, lighted key locks on doors help with keys, tilt, cruise, intermittent wipers, six-way power driver's seat, premium sound system w/cassette, power antenna, four-way disc brakes (that so far seem problem free), aluminum alloy wheels (15") with new Michelins all around, lighted engine and trunk compartments, remote-trunk release, power locks, power doors, dual four-way power mirrors, fog lights...

Blows away my previous car, a BMW 325 in performance and options (well I guess the Beemer could out-handle it on curvy roads, but they'd have to be dry). I can't wait to try out the FWD this winter in the snow since I haven't had a car with it in 15 years.

I have no complaints so far, the car is fantastic and you could hardly hope for more options except maybe air bags & ABS. I only paid $900 for this car and the paint after a good rub-out and wax has come back like new. No rust or major scratches.

The car is in beautiful condition and the coupe styling still turns heads after 12 years. I'm amazed that everything on it still works like new.
