1993 Buick Skylark 3.3 V6

Summary:

A good car, but not worth keeping with high miles

Faults:

Engine mounts snapped right after I bought it.

At 120,000 miles I had to replace the exhaust, fuel pump, entire ignition system, the brake calipers, and rebuild the valves.

General Comments:

This car was fine for the first 100,000 miles and I knew the previous owner who never had a problem with it.

When it's time to make repairs the star bit and metric combination is a bear to work with.

The gas mileage was pretty good and comfort was good.

Mechanically it seems that this car was designed to be junked at 100,000 miles. A true example of cars as a consumable item.

It didn't cost me much to run, but the repair bills really added up. I've spent thousands of dollars in parts alone.

1993 Buick Skylark 3.3

Summary:

She's been a reliable car that's never left me stranded

Faults:

I've had to replace the water pump a couple of times and that was expensive.

Other than that, I've only had to perform standard maintenance. Brakes, and the alternator a couple of times.

I replaced the heater core at about 210,000 miles.

General Comments:

It's always had a lot of get up and go. The engine still runs great even though I have so many miles on it. It's still the original engine and transmission.

The interior has held up well too. No rips, tears or wear spots, even though we're in it a lot.

Body still doesn't have a spot of rust on it and the paint is in good shape too. Still shiny!!

1993 Buick Skylark Custom 3.3 Liter V6

Summary:

An American made car

Faults:

Radiator was replaced at 150,000 miles.

Brakes changed often (every 6 months).

Replaced the alternator.

Heater core was replaced at 130,000 miles.

Water pump went out at 155,000.

General Comments:

This car is an excellent vehicle. The car has never had any major problems other than the wear and tear or what high mileage has caused. My Skylark has over 160,000 miles and has never leaked a drop of oil or any other fluid. I have kept up with the regular maintenence of changing the oil, transmission fluid, and spark plugs and wires. This car has stood up to its name of being a Buick. A bonus with this car is that it has great gas mileage and a "brace yourself" get up and go.

The only gripes that I have about this car is that I go through brakes about every six months, but as a surprise the factory rotors have gone with little to no damage. Also the car is very roomy in the driver's seat, but the rest of the cab seems to be a tight fit.

Hi

Well I have had a good run with my car, but now It won't start when its hot.

As for your brakes, even when the rotors look OK they still need to be turned each time the brakes are replaced. They get very small groves in them that will cut down new pads very fast. If you drive fast and or and do a lot of hard braking you may also glaze the rotors and then you will not get the stopping power you should.

You can get this done at most auto parts stores for about $5. I do my own brakes and learned the hard way sometimes it costs more not to do it right the first time.

On this car I get about 2 yrs or about 18000 miles out of the front and about 25000 on the back, but on my tracker I more than double that. I hope this helps from one shade tree to another.

My Skylark has about 130,000 miles on it. My anti freeze leaks often. And it heats up and stops. Other than that, I love it. I'm soon getting a new radiator...

Im also putting a sound system in.

1993 Buick Skylark

Summary:

Don't buy it!

Faults:

We had to replace the transmission.

Air conditioning fixed.

Defect in the block.

The car kept overheating.

Brakes.

Problems with the gears shifting.

Now my steering wheel is about to fall off! It is affecting the shift and continues to become loose everyday. I am told that it will cost me another $200-300 dollars. This is two weeks after I just paid $350 to have a new water pump replaced!! I am told that the manufacturer can do "nothing". Who ever heard of a steering wheel coming off!!???

General Comments:

This car is okay. I would not buy it again. I had a Nissan and loved it! I would never buy this one again!!!

I also had a '94 Buick Skylark. I had to have the steering column replaced at about 72000 miles. The dealer/mechanic had no idea how a steering column broke inside. It was not covered under my extended warranty and it cost me about $675 for me to fix. Two weeks later I had to have the air conditioning compressor replaced. Finally, when the alternator went out I traded it in for a newer car. I had the car for almost 5 years and up until about 70,000 miles it ran perfect. Nice ride, good gas mileage, great pick-up.
