2000 Cadillac DeVille

Summary:

I'd buy another one, but a newer model with way less miles!

Faults:

My husband recently purchased for me a 2000 Deville... EVERYTHING that can go wrong, WILL go wrong!! I love the car to death, but it definitely can be a hassle. I have approximately 130,000 miles or so on it.

FIRST - I read a past post from Dec '08 where the windshield wipers had a mind of their own. Mine did the same... checked fuses, pulled them out, the whole nine. Still was a problem, but my husband ended up putting a stereo system in the car, so somehow wires got crossed/uncrossed and now it works... go figure! (And for this, I have dubbed her the name "Creepy Caddy")

SECOND - When I put on my right turn signal (with headlights ON) my high beams come on. Don't know why it does this, and I still haven't fixed it.

THIRD - I read about 293 posts about VIBRATION... yeah same here... I learned to live with it LOL.

FOURTH- Is your Caddy cutting out at low speeds or stops?? Not cranking immediately? CRANK SHAFT SENSORS! I'm getting them replaced as I type...

FIFTH- Air Bag light is on... so is traction control and Check Engine... makes my dash look animated :)

General Comments:

The list of problems could go on all day, but overall the ride is SMOOTH AND LUXURIOUS! I am a woman of domestic cars, this by far has the best ride and comfort.

Bottom line... the car LOOKS GREAT, but looks can be deceiving. If you got the money and time to invest in repairs, go for it. If you're cheap... please look the other way :)

2000 Cadillac DeVille

Summary:

Great

Faults:

Alternator at 65,000 miles.

Water pump at 90,000 miles.

Radiator at 110,000 miles.

Has developed a slight oil drip at 112,000 miles.

SES Sensor on at 95,000 miles.

General Comments:

5th Cadillac, love it. Never any problem on the previous, last was a 1999, put about 65,000 miles on it.

This one runs great, looks perfect, but the dreaded Service Engine Soon light is on and I cannot get it smogged in California.

2000 Cadillac DeVille

Summary:

I am happy with this vehicle

Faults:

Needed new tires at 40,000, due to low pressure as a rental, but sure gave a soft ride.

Needed a new battery at 89000, and 8 years, not bad!!!

My question is --- anyone have any idea what long term mileage I can expect?? Should this vehicle last to 150,000 or 200,000 miles. Not using any oil at this point (90,000). Thanks for the comments.

Just have the dealership change the antifreeze once per year and have the transmission serviced when necessary. It should last between 150k and 200k. Don't let a quick lube or regular repair shop service any part of the cooling system. They won't add the block seal this car requires and your engine will be ruined.

You are right, without these supplement tablets for the cooling system, your engine will be ruined and your water pump also will suffer damage.

2000 Cadillac DeVille DTS 4.6 Northstar

Summary:

Great car. Please Cadillac, don't dump the V8.

Faults:

I am second owner. As with others, I found out it had a bent wheel. I replaced with a new wheel, but also had to replace right front tie rod and ball joint, $432 later, and $358 for the wheel.

Had to replace another wheel, that was bad a casting, another $358.

Leaking drive shaft, so I replaced both, and one rebuilt was bad, and the car shook on takeoff. Replaced by a tire dealer and no more problems.

I would advise some people with vibration to check the drive-shafts, even if not leaking, also possible out of round tires, and rotate 180 degrees to see if vibration disappears.

I am learning by repair, and would like to compare notes with others with similar problems.

General Comments:

I learned to drive with my dad's 1954 Cadillac Fleetwood new, and this is the first Cadillac that rides with comfort.
