1998 Cadillac Eldorado ETC 279 cid, 4.6L, Northstar V8

Summary:

Love at first drive

Faults:

This car is mint! I love it. I just picked it up at my work for dirt cheap. It was a trade in from an elderly person. The interior is remarkable as well as the exterior! The ETC is pretty quick.

General Comments:

Love it. Great all around performance. Great handling.

1998 Cadillac Eldorado

Summary:

Bad engine design

Faults:

I purchased my car with 30,000 miles on it. My head gasket started showing a leak at 50,000 miles. I was told it would cost me $2,500 to repair. Now @ 70,000 the car is in need of a new head gasket and will cost me $3,000 to repair. I certainly can't sell it to someone like this and buy a new one. The aluminum heads and cast iron block was the ultimate disaster for this car.

General Comments:

It is a very comfortable car. Before the head-gasket blew, it accelerated beautifully.

I also know of someone who basically gave his car away because of a leaky gasket.

Our '94 Cadillac Seville STS with the Northstar has been a completely different experience than yours. We bought it at a repo auction with 164,000 miles, It has had no problems, and has been driven across the country several times. I have a feeling that the statement:

"Before the head-gasket blew, it accelerated beautifully."

Says it all. Spending a lot of time seeing how beautifully a car accelerates will blow the head gasket on any car. It's called "abuse."

1998 Cadillac Eldorado Standard 275 hp Northstar

Summary:

Great Value, Great Performance, Good looks!

Faults:

I had to replace one of the plastic fittings on the windshield washer hose about mid-way between the pump and the wipers. It was a cheap easy fix, but a little hard to find.

General Comments:

This car was a former commercial lease and was well taken car of. It looks runs and drives like a new one. The Northstar engine rules! The heated seats are nice on an old man's back..lol.
