1989 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc Z-28 350/5.7 liter TPI

Summary:

Great Budget Street Racer. With minimal money you can make this thing screaming fast.

Faults:

The TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) went out at 65200 miles.

Paint has become faded on roof and hood and deck lid.

Power Trunk Latch sometimes gets sticky and requires a quick hit with the deck lid to move again.

Headliner fell down and sagged at about 60000 miles.

General Comments:

The car handles incredible.

I have no trouble taking off ramps and on ramps at 65 or plus.

350 V8 is intensely powerful stock, with the SLP exhaust, under-drive pulleys, and JET Performance chip, and ram air the car is about a 5.5 second dash to 60.

Kind of bumpy on back roads.

Good Driving position even though I am very tall.

Torque is incredible.

1989 Chevrolet Camaro RS 2.8L 173in3

Summary:

A great cheap car

Faults:

When I first got the car, the engine would constantly overheat.

New spark plug wires were also needed.

The seat beat latch had to be replaced.

The radiator blew up.

The water pump had a hole which was later replaced.

After replacing the water pump, the steering column (tilt steering) had to be adjusted and tightened.

General Comments:

Although this car happens to be a 2.8L V6 engine with an automatic transmission, it has great power.

It's great on handling.

It's speed and acceleration are to be noted as great as well.

This car is seriously quick for having only a 5.0l engine.

The car handles great for rear-wheel drive.

The stock suspension rides really rough.

The interior looks good, but requires a lot of attention.

The car requires a lot of care.

The $6000 dollars paid at the time was reasonable for the condition of the car.

1989 Chevrolet Camaro RS 2.8

Summary:

Piece of junk

Faults:

Needed new tires.

Passenger side handle came off while trying to close it.

Needed a new distributer which had rusted up.

Mass oxygen sensor needed replacing.

Oil sender unit needed replacing.

A part where the hot water runs through for the heater leaks.

Seat belt needed fixing... adjusting is more like it. Something go stuck on it.

General Comments:

NO power in a 2.8 liter. DON'T ever get one! Actually, I've heard that they get about 24 mpg, and they are great. But that was a case where she bought the car from a guy who took great care of it. She loved that car a lot. I however bought my car off some kid who didn't have a clue about how to jury-rig.

I get 19 on the highway.

I'm not getting too much power out of it, but it handles very nicely.

They're hard to work on. It's hard to reach parts like the spark plugs on the passenger side. It seems to me that all Chevys are hard to work on. Things are just put together stupid. At least they were in the 80's.

I found it had leaked under my seats and had puddles in there. I couldn't figure out why.

It looks nice, obviously. But looks aren't everything. Make SURE you know what you're buying. Give it a test drive. or two. Be suspicious of anything under $3000.

You bought a 10 year old car and it seems that the previous owners were jerks and mistreated the car. With a 2.8L engine, I think you knew exactly what type of a car you were buying.

I bought a 84 Berlinetta and I paid $1250 for it. I had very good luck with it and it has a 305, but I hate the T tops, they leak like no other.

I am going to redo this car, I'm going to a build a 350 to the max and I going to paint it silver with blue racing stripes.
