1990 Chevrolet Cavalier RS 2.2 liter

Summary:

Overall it is a pretty nice car with a few glitches that need to be fixed by a Real Mechanic

Faults:

When I first got this car it was pretty snazzy, and I liked it. Then a few thousand miles later my first CV joint broke on me and that cost a whopping 97.50 dollars. then about 3 months later the same CV joint broke yet another time. I got really mad at this point. Then about 4 months later I broke another one, but on the other side.

Now the ball joints are going out too.

The water pump is ready to go out as well.

Turn signals don't work trust me its not the fuse or bulbs.

The headlights are out of whack too.

And she makes a weird humming noise when I turn to the left.

And my tire rubs when I turn to the right.

General Comments:

Handling is like none other. Very good. The seats hold you in nice.

1990 Chevrolet Cavalier RS 2.2 4-Cylinder

Summary:

An excellent combination of performance, stability, reliability, low cost maintainance, and comfort

Faults:

The paint is poor.

Shocks are terribly worn out.

Headliner was the first thing to go.

Door seals leak when it rains.

General Comments:

I've owned 8 cars within the past 5 years, and this one has by far been the most reliable. The engine was designed to be bullet proof, as I have proven it to be.

This car has taken me 63 miles one way to work everyday for about a year now totaling 126 miles per day just to work and back. Not once has it ever left me for dead.

It is a bit slow on the take off, but has astounding performance on the freeway at speeds up to 80. It has no problem accelerating from 65 to 95, very surprising for a heavy four cylinder vehicle.

The automatic transmission is also another crucial piece of the car. I prefer a standard shift, but I make a strong exception for this one. It is dead on the money on how an automatic should perform, and last.

Proves to be safe. I had a small collision right after purchasing it. It held together with just a few scratches as a result. Nothing ever went wrong after that.

1990 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 3.1 Multi Port Fuel Injection

Summary:

Excelent

Faults:

At 90,000 miles I blew a push rod.

I bought a new engine. ($2,800)

At 100,000 miles I had to replace the front right wheel baring. ($200)

General Comments:

I am 16 years old and received the car from my parents.

They bought it brand new in 1990 and saved it for my brother who then bought a new car.

I received it in 2004 with a new engine.

The car is extremely fast... Even at 100 it is still making a steady climb.

I am very happy that this car is a 3.1 Multi Port Fuel Injection, 5 speed manual transmission.

The interior is very comfortable, the seats are slightly bucketed and very well cushioned.

The handling is extremely responsive and can make a 45 mph. turn with no brakes needed.

It also has the removable sunroof which is great on summer days.

At the ripe age of 14 it still turns heads and get compliments.

1990 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 3.1 Liter

Summary:

A 15 year love affair

Faults:

I've replaced 2 fuel injectors.

Most recently, 1 fuel pump.

Replaced 2 alternators so far.

Typical for a car this age, replaced the timing belt.

Went through 2 water pumps.

The catalytic converter has been replaced once.

Along with that, the muffler went 6 years later.

And the latest is a thrown rod in the engine causing me to right now have a used engine put in it.

General Comments:

I love this car, and since it's now 14 years later, it seems I'm keeping it forever.

Interior is in great shape, and the paint is OK for the age of car.

1990 Chevrolet Cavalier VL 2.2 4-cylinder

Summary:

Great first car

Faults:

Needed new belt tensioner

New heater-core

Water leaks onto the floors when it rains.

Now it has an electrical problem in which something drains the battery quickly. Within a few hours it is dead. But when it is running it charges.

General Comments:

I love my car. I am 16 and it is my first car. It still runs strong with all the mileage on it. I have traveled from Berrien Springs, Michigan to the South Chicago area (where I am from) about 3 times since I've had the car, and it ran fine. The car handles very well, and I love the suspension. For being a small car it is very roomy and comfortable. I would recommend this car to anyone I'm glad this was my first car. It did me very well and I am happy with its reliability.
