1995 Chevrolet Lumina 2 Dr Z34 Coupe Twin Dual Cam V6

Summary:

Best Car you'd ever have - if you can keep paying to get it fixed

Faults:

Had to replace:

Both mufflers

Clutch

Alternator

+ lots of other stuff I do not now remember.

General Comments:

Your mechanic will love it - he'll pay off the house sooner.

Also caution this type of cars attract cops!

Anyway, performance wise really powerful. Handling is good. Fat tires make it unpredictable on snow, you really need to know how to handle it in the winter.

Before 160K had to change EVERYTHING on it: both mufflers, clutch, starter, alternator some other stuff I do not remember now.

The car was eating oil and gas like crazy. Probably 1L of oil a week and 20L/100 km for mileage.

Had to sell it at a loss, could not afford that beauty.

That's very ODD. I'm not aware of any 95 Lumina with a 3.4 twin DOHC. They stopped using that engine in the Lumina after 94. It went to the Monte Carlo &? until 97 when they stopped using twin DOHC altogether. From 95 on they used 3.1 & the 3.8 in the Lumina.

1995 Chevrolet Lumina LS

Summary:

Nice ride, but watch out for transmission problems!

Faults:

A/C would never hold a charge. It would work for a few days and then stop again.

Serious problem with peeling paint. This seems to be a common issue with the Lumina.

Transmission blew at 110,000 miles, now it is a lawn ornament. :(

General Comments:

Car was a very comfortable ride. Kind of like driving a sofa.

Gas mileage was good. I was averaging around 22mpg.

Car was very reliable -- then died with no warning whatsoever.

1995 Chevrolet Lumina APV 3.1

Summary:

Acceptable for a 13 year old minivan

Faults:

The left hand turn signal won't stop automatically, and I have to return it to the center position by hand.

There is a crack in the upper right hand quadrant of the windshield.

The driver and front passenger seatbelts do not pull out or retract properly.

General Comments:

I found it to be roomy, with good visibility out the front, but the pillar behind the driver's side window is too wide for a proper shoulder check, so I installed convex mirrors I got at Canadian Tire.

I like the fact that the rear most seats fold up on themselves, giving me tons of room for cargo.

This vehicle came with a towing package and a transmission cooler, both pluses for me as I am buying a tent trailer and regularly use a trailer to haul wood and such things to my cottage.

1995 Chevrolet Lumina

Faults:

The car shakes violently when trying to back up, and can't get out the driveway at 130,000 miles? Still don't get this one! Has only done this twice in the last six months???

Coil pack at 104,000.

Air conditioner at 110,000.

Throttle position sensor at 115,000.

Engine fan stop working at 119,000.

Signal works sometimes at 125,000.

Power windows at 122,000.

Power locks stuck on some doors.

General Comments:

It is a 13 year old car and has its share of problems, but it did get me through college and I know quite a bit about cars, so I fixed a lot of that myself.

I can't complain, because when the car was only 9 years old and barely had 100k on it I bought it for $700 bucks. So I think I got my money's worth out of it. Besides the small nagging problems, it has been an okay used car.

1995 Chevrolet Lumina APV 3.8

Summary:

Excellent

Faults:

Almost nothing has failed in the 13 years owned, only struts on front, and shocks, which need replacement regularly on any vehicle.

The A/C compressor failed at 11 years of age, not bad.

General Comments:

OK in front for taller people, a little crowded in rear for them. 20 to 25 mpg on road.

1995 Chevrolet Lumina sedan 3.1L V6

Summary:

Great car, best I've ever owned. great daily driver

Faults:

I bought a 1990 ford thunderbird from a used car lot. that car I had for about 3 days... i test drove it, bought it, drove it home and on the second day of ownership, the engine made a loud pop and then there was a knocking push rod. so I took it back to the dealership and I got a 95 lumina. the lumina has been a great car. its wonderful. the only thing that I have done to it is changed the brakes, thermostat and alternator.

General Comments:

Very good on gas. 17.5 gallon tank. I filled it up and drove 315 miles and I still have just over 1/4 of a tank. very very comfortable, and quiet car. no major problems with it at all.
