2001 Chevrolet Malibu LS 3.1 V6

Summary:

I love it, and look forward to my next one

Faults:

Replaced Brake Pads and Front Rotors at 40,000.

General Comments:

I believe over all that that Chevrolet Malibu's are a very good car.

The 3.1 V6 runs down the road awesome!

It gets great fuel mileage, even though that like one article said it was inconsistent, its' always good even breaking 30mpg on interstate driving.

I've read the negative remarks made on the Malibu's, and disagree with most. I think the people complaining about them, would complain about most anything they would drive period. Its' a car folks, they do break down sometimes.. even the high dollar vehicle you will find at the dealership for repairs. Yes! there are Lexus mechanics too... even Honda Mechanics! them little imports have to be worked on, they get funny little noises in them too...

If you are thinking of a Malibu to buy, I do recommend.

Mine is a LS with leather, moon roof, factory CD, Alloy Wheels and a rear spoiler... I'd buy another one in a heart beat!

2001 Chevrolet Malibu sedan

Summary:

This car is a problem car

Faults:

My brakes, rotors, tires, air blower, turn signals and hazard light switch has all been problems that I have had with my 2001 Chevy Malibu.

General Comments:

I bought my Chevy Malibu brand new from a Chevy dealer. My first year of ownership was fine, until I read some of the reviews. I had to replace my brakes and rotors which I see has been an ongoing problem. In my second year my a/c blower wouldn't work on levels 1 or 2 so the dealership replaced that part. Now my turn signal and hazard light works when they want to and most of the time they don't want to work. GM has announced a recall on the hazard switch which is behind the column a costly repair and my 3yr/36,000 mile warranty is up and GM doesn't want to help because they tell me my car was manufactured at a plant that's not involved in the recall. But the part that's not working is the same part they are recalling on 2000 and 2001 Malibu.

My 2000 Malibu is (apparently) also not involved in the recall, due to its plant/parts batch, so I will have to replace the hazard switch myself (or else solder it myself).

However, overall, I have to say that I love my car well enough. She's got her issues, for sure, but we're none of us perfect. ;-)

2001 Chevrolet Malibu LS

Summary:

Good car with annoying problems

Faults:

Brakes groan when applied (sound like a big rubber band being stretched).

Car vibrates when braking.

Some vibration when driving.

Turn signal malfunctions while in use - just stops working when engaged then will start again. Sometimes won't come on. Problem is both sides and front and back and doesn't matter if I'm braking or not at the same time. Turn Signal also doesn't always turn off after a turn.

Inconsistent fuel mileage.

Barely any air coming out of #1 and #2 option. Must put on #3 to feel anything. Have worked with this by adjusting the air temp.

General Comments:

The car is comfortable for me. I like that the radio and temperature controls are within easy reach of the steering wheel. I also like the cup holder to the left of the steering wheel that pulls out from the dash. This car accelerates good and handles well, however the problems above seem to increase more and more and I see that many people with Malibu's are having the same problems or worse.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I agree with the above comments, but feel that problems many Chevy Malibu drivers experience have been left out. Including, AC that does not work properly, battery, alternator and serpentine belt replacement. Endless brake problems, of which I am still not sure how to get fixed. One of my sensors went out which caused my car to die while driving it. I have been on many other websites and seen other Malibu drivers complaining of the same problems.
