2001 Chevrolet Malibu LS

Summary:

Total waste of my hard earned money

Faults:

Hazard lights ceased to work completely. Serious vibration in rear passenger electric window. Wiper blade box flew off on highway during a snowstorm. Serious problem with their tires. Two mechanics and a service technician at the 2 dealerships told me that the Firestone Affinity tires used on this car are a very poor choice for the weight of this car.I've slid through several stop signs and actually considered stopping to drive int he winter due to their lousy tires and braking system. Air conditioner does not seem to work as well as other cars I've owned. Incredible amount of road noise is hear while driving. Many interior noises. Very loud engine noise while both driving and idling. So far I have had to change the brakes, the wiper blade box the components for the rear passenger window, the hazard lights and now most likely the tires. I must also mention that every time I open the trunk in the rain or snow it pours into the trunk well. At higher speeds the car has a definite roll to it and is actually not enjoyable to drive.

General Comments:

Very poor excuse for a car.

GM needs to definitely needs to refine this car.

Would most definitely not buy another Malibu and unless someone at head office makes a move to help me deal with these problems I most definitely will not be purchasing another GM.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I agree that the OEM Firestone tires are not the best. From day one they were noisy on my Malibu, kind of like a cupping noise. They really wore unevenly too, despite rotations and balancing. When they wore out (38,500 miles) I went with Yokohama YK420 tires. I believe the YK420s are exclusive to discount tire, but they do have an H4 series that is nearly identical at other tire shops and on the Internet.

I haven't regretted the yokes one bit... they made my car drive better than new. Much quieter, the noise is gone. They look sharp on the car too. I really can't tell you how they do in snow and on ice...haven't had a snow storm here since buying them.

Good luck with you 'bu.

The Malibu will not start due to either a bad fuel pump or fuel pump module.

I am having the same problem. I think it's the fuel pump. We replaced the fuel filter, but that didn't fix it. The car only has 50K miles.

I have a 2001 Chevy Malibu and I am having the same problem. They say it is the fuel pump and it needs to be replaced. The car only has 50,000 miles on it.

The dealer said our ignition module, after the key switch was bad and that is why the car would crank, but not start. Last week they said it was because the battery was bad, but that was not it. We replaced the battery and are using the old one in another car daily.

My Malibu has had lots of problems. First my theft system locked up and my car would not start. Then it would not turn over, they said it was my fuel filter. Now here I am again, My car will not start. They are saying fuel pump or my theft system. Both are costly.

My vehicle has the same issues. The air vents will not work on 1 or 2. My Malibu stopped working after it was jerking really hard. I changed everything from the spark plugs, to spark plug wires, and even the catalytic converter. It still jerked. Now my car will not start. I too changed the fuel filter. Nothing. Is it the fuel pump? Somebody let me know, before I keep putting money into my car.
