Summary:

Great car high maintenance

Faults:

Check engine light came on at 600 miles.

Check engine light repeatedly comes on every 2000 miles.

Traction Control system warning light came on at 35000 miles.

Anti-Lock Brake system light came on at 36000 miles.

Traction Control stopped working at 40000 miles.

Anti-Lock Brake system stopped working at 43000 miles.

Replaced brake system twice in a 10000 mile period.

Traction Control system failure do to speed sensors in wheels $500 per sensor to replace.

Speed Sensors failed again at 50000 miles.

General Comments:

The car performs great.

Excellent gas mileage.

Cabin holds 5 people comfortably.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I have a 2001 Monte Carlo SS that I simply couldn't wait to have. At around 25,000 miles I noticed some little things going on with my transmission, such as a whining sound and then a slight slip, as it went into second gear after slowing and then accelerating again. I took it in for a few problems and mentioned to the service manager the transmission irregularities and he told me he didn't find anything wrong. Now at over 50,000 miles and no longer under warranty, the transmission is worse and whines even louder. I was told that GM is aware of some problems with the Monte Carlo, and have notified dealerships about it, but there is no recall or help at this time. I was wondering if anyone else has heard anything about this problem?

2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS 3.4

Summary:

Best looking, best feeling, and best performing car I've ever owned

Faults:

Drain tube from sun roof got out of position and rain leaked into car from right front post. Problem promptly and completely resolved under warranty.

General Comments:

This car is the best-performing car on the open road I have ever driven (including Chrysler New Yorker and T-Bird).

It holds the road unbelievably on high speed turns.

At 90 MPH it still had power to spare, and felt and sounded like it was going 50.

For a two-door coupe the interior is surprisingly roomy enough for five adults.

With options such as leather seats and leather wrapped steering wheel, stereo controls on steering wheel and moon/sun roof, this is by far the most luxurious performance car I've ever driven.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS

Faults:

Problem 1: At about 28,000 miles, what initially sounded like "road noise" slowly turned into a low grinding/groaning sound, that is most noticeable when slowing. The dealer advised me the problem was the "cheap" tires Chevy used on it's new cars (there was obvious wear on the front tires at that time, although I'd had them rotated twice). So, I bought four new high quality Goodyear tires... and got an alignment - but guess what? The noise was still there - perhaps even louder, with a mild shudder in the steering wheel. The dealer replaced the tires, rotated the tires, checked the alignment - and are puzzled now after three attempts to fix this. Their explanation now: Road noise... it's normal. Chevrolet has yet to respond to my inquiries.

Problem 2: The climate control fan switch broke at 5,000 miles.

Problem 3: The drivers side power window control broke at 20,000.

Problem 4: Twice, the black finish on the middle console between the front seats has come off apparently from just contact with my arm.

General Comments:

The car is of a beautiful eye catching design.

I loved the way it handled (before Problem 1).

It's roomier than any most four-door vehicles out there.

I'm disappointed at the run around I'm getting from the dealer... and now from Chevrolet.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

We bought a 2000 Monte Carlo in 2001. It had 4000 miles on it and had an excellent price, so we had Car-fax ran and spoke with the previous owner who had no complaints with the car... just needed a truck. Immediately we felt a vibration in the vehicle and the dealer agreed to switch tires from the 1999 Monte Carlo we traded in, and we thought this would take care of the problem... Well, at 35,560 mile now we're still trying to "solve" this problem. We've had this car to tire stores, 3 different dealers, and have still not solved this. We've changed tires 4,yes, four times, and just recently a dealer replaced the front wheel-bearings and the knuckle for the steering. It still has the vibration. Just 1 day ago, I took it back to the same dealer, and he told me it was "road noise" and he couldn't fix my problem. Also had to have the driver side window motor replaced at about 20,000 miles, and the material is coming off the console between the front seats from contact with my arm, and we treat the car with care, so it's not as if we're rough on this vehicle.The Monte Carlo is a very sharp car, and we would be absolutely thrilled with it if this vibration problem could be solved.
