1992 Chevrolet S-10 Tahoe Longbed 4.4L V6

Summary:

Dream to drive, handles likes new!!! Plenty of power to boot!!!

Faults:

(note I did all repairs myself except the distributer because I just couldn't figure out what was wrong with the truck)

New tires when I purchased it.

Alternator went out shortly after I bought it, I think probably 4 months after I bought the truck.

Replaced fuel filter at 152,000 to try and improve gas mileage. Only gets 14 miles to the gallon. also replaced spark plugs at same time.

Needs new exhaust, but plan on replacing next month, truck had set for a while before I purchased it which didn't help the exhaust issue.

Upper ball joint on passenger side went out at 151,000 due to lack of preventive maintenance by previous owner, but I replaced both driver and passenger joints for 12 dollars a piece.

Replaced shocks at the same time as ball joints truck handles like its brand new. but it still needs a front end alignment.

Truck died at 153,000 miles due to a bent distribut0r shaft, mechanic said the shaft was bent prior to me owning the vehicle, said the engine had been rebuilt about 3 years ago that's why it runs so well.

Hasn't been driven in a while I'm in the military and have been awaiting orders to figure out what I wanted to do with it. Truck is kept at my parents house and is started every so often and starts on the first turn.

Paint is still glossy waxed six months ago.

Only one rust spot on entire truck on passenger side door, other than a few dents here and there truck looks great after 15 years of age.

General Comments:

This is my second truck I've owned and I absolutely love the thing. I've driven other mid-size trucks and I can't stand other models except the S 10 and Colorado.

I have had minimal problems with this truck for its age, the problems I've had have been to the fact that the previous owner didn't take care of it.

It doesn't get very good gas mileage, 14, but I think that is do to a burned up catylic convertor and rusted exhaust all the way back, but with high school job income I couldn't afford the exhaust to be fixed, so within the next two weeks the exhaust will get replaced.

A lot of it could be due to carbon build up, the truck has sat for two long periods of time and is about to be driven from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Denver, Colorado and should run just fine.

My dad drives my truck when it snows instead of his 2004 3/4 ton explain that? I've driven this truck on snow and ice and it does real well, I've read other reviews and don't understand how people have so many issues with it being on ice, maybe its long bed vs. short bed. The short beds have a better chance of having all 4 tires on the same sheet of ice vice the long bed is able to get better traction.

After a tune up and new exhaust this truck should be a dream to drive. With plenty of power to accelerate, haul, and pass, this truck is the most reliable truck I've ever owned.

1992 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer Tahoe

Summary:

Excellent Vehicle

Faults:

Water pump went out shortly after I bought it.

Had to get new tires @140K

Had to replace alternator.

New radiator and fan clutch.

New battery (Duralast Gold 78 series 800 cold cranking amps)

Repaired A/C this year and retrofitted to R-134a Freon (blows ICE COLD! Before the compressor sprung a leak, it still had the factory R-12 Freon charge.)

General Comments:

This truck is probably the best vehicle I have ever owned. The 4.3L V6 has plenty of power and will run forever. At 158,000 miles, it doesn't use a drop of oil and runs like it's brand new. I use 10W-30 oil in it. Her gas mileage isn't all that great (about 17 mpg) but what is spend on gas I save on repairs. I love this truck and would not hesitate to drive it anywhere.
