2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer LTZ

Summary:

GM had the last laugh, I bought a lemon and let them get away with it!

Faults:

There have been tons of electrical problems with this car. Driver's convenience package won't reset the mirrors or settings, driver's side mirror didn't defrost, wiper motor module was replaced, radio was replaced for automatically switching stations, the A/C ignition switch was replaced due to stalling out three times, the tail lights have blown several times. I've also had both sets of rotors replaced twice, however, brake pads were fine??? When I got the car, we noticed the luggage rack on top was put on backwards. There have been 5 recalls on this car the first two years of it's life. BEST PART, I actually got GM to provide me a 2-year supposedly bumper to bumper warranty, because in every instance, but the windshield wiper problem, the car was under it's 3-year/36,000 mile warranty. However, they had the last laugh, because, while I was guaranteed this warranty would be an extension of my 3-year/36,000 mile warranty, I just took the car in and the repairs were not covered. EVEN BETTER, now, I read these comments, I have been complaining about my engine sounding loud for the past 2 years and the dealership could not duplicate the problem. They told me when I just took it in, it's probably the fan clutch, but MY Warranty DOESN'T COVER THIS! I am telling everyone I know to stay away from GM cars - especially the Trailblazers!

General Comments:

I love the comfort and style of this car - very roomy and always looks good. Too bad GM couldn't spend a little more on the parts.

How sad... GM and Ford are closing plants at a FURIOUS pace. Ever wonder why? I bought a GM truck (made in Mexico) and it has 50K miles without a SINGLE problem, not even a light bulb has burned out. Everything still works perfectly. The tires and battery are original. I also bought a Japanese Car (Subaru) made in USA. The quality is wonderful! I don't know what the "big 3" can do... How many Honda, Toyota, or Nissan owners are flocking to their showrooms? It's really sad...

2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer LS

Summary:

Great car, company is not helpful

Faults:

I've had to replace tail lights, it has been fixed by dealer b/c of recall. I've also had to replace right headlight, but I had to pay $175 b/c dealer said it's not under a recall (my deductible on my warranty is $200). I also have had the fan clutch replaced (I paid $200, warranty covered the rest).

General Comments:

I love my car, but I've talked to dealer about trying to get a recall on these problems because they seem to be universal, very prevalent problems with this model year, but to no avail. They need to accept responsibility.

2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer LTZ 4.2 IL6

Summary:

This car does everything I need it to, and then some

Faults:

Blown tail light fixed under warranty.

General Comments:

This has been a truly good vehicle. Smooth and responsive inline 6 has V8 performance, and then some. Towing performance is awesome, even on long steep gradients. Handling takes a bit of getting used to, if you are going through some twisty sections of road at speed. The car dives a little too much for my comfort, and although it never felt unsafe, it was a quirk. This is a big vehicle, and one should not try to have it perform like a sports car. Bose stereo is nice, good sound. OnStar is a good feature, and on this vehicle it has all the bells and whistles.

Great dashboard, seating and AC/climatre control make living with the car an easy task. Long road trips are accomplished with little if any discomfort. The leather seats are still good as new.

Buy one, but do check out the history if buying used, and ensure all those recalls are taken care of.
