1998 Chrysler Cirrus LXI V6

Summary:

It's a good car

Faults:

Well it was misfiring on cylinders 4 & 5. Changed spark plugs and wires, and distributor cap and rotor. The engine light came on and threw a code, the oxygen sensor hoses were loose, so try checking them to make sure they are on tight, if it's not that then try replacing the EGR valve. Which is around $80.00 at Advanced Auto store. But if your car keeps on stalling... I would try changing the crank sensor. You could also bring it to a garage and they will hook it up to a pressure gauge, which will tell you if your fuel pump is working correctly. And if it's your fuel pump, you're gonna have to have a mechanic drop the gas tank to get to it.

General Comments:

I like my 1998 Chrysler Cirrus LXI... just had to work out some corks in it.

1998 Chrysler Cirrus LXi

Summary:

Nice but complicated!

Faults:

I recently purchased a 1998 Chrysler Cirrus. It was working great, but then it began to stutter at about 45-55mph. Then one day while driving it gave a great big stutter and I haven't been able to make it run again.

Following advice, I changed the fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, crankshaft sensor, spark plug wires, and the distributor! But my car won't turn on yet!!!

Please I really need help with this problem! Any suggestions will be appreciated. Please email me at steph_708@yahoo.com

And please if you do suggest to change a car part, let me know where in the vehicle it's found. I am an 18 yr old girl, and everything that has been changed, has been done by me. That is why I need help with figuring out what is wrong with my car!

General Comments:

This car ran very good before showing up with this issue and it was very reliable. I just hate how complicated everything is in it, and how costly parts are!

Distributors seem to be a big issue with this car. I'd get one of them. After you replace that, you may need a new throttle position sensor. All of these components are electrically tied in through the computer, and this car is a pain in the rear.

Summary:

Good car for the money

Faults:

Knocking noise from engine. Dealer said that it is probably two rod bearings. Would like to keep this car since it is paid for, but the cost of another engine is probably more than it is worth.

General Comments:

Has been a great car with great gas mileage. I feel like it still has a lot of life in it if I could get the engine fixed.

1998 Chrysler Cirrus LXI V6

Summary:

I will never get another Chrysler again

Faults:

Before 25,000 miles, my transmission and distributor blew. It was at least covered under warranty due to a leak.

At around 50,000 miles, I lost my air conditioning and defrost, and my horn started blowing incessantly. I had to pull the fuse. At that time, it would also make horrible noises when I turn like it is groaning; I think my power steering pump is out.

Right around 85,000 miles, I got the leak under my car and need to get that fixed. I also started getting the oil light flashing all the time on my dashboard. Sometimes, the check engine light comes on as well with no known code.

Now, they are telling me my transmission is going out again, but I don't think that is the problem, it sometimes jerks, when it is first getting in gear and going. I am wondering if it is the sputtering thing everyone is mentioning?

General Comments:

I knew nothing about Chrysler when I got this car, and I have no idea how to fix these problems.

I have spent so much money and just want to fix it as easy and cheaply as possible. Please give suggestions in mechanic terms for dummies.

I've had the same issues.

This car is very costly to fix. I have spent thousands over the years. The problem I have now is sudden stop syndrome the car check engine comes on and then the car shuts off.

I agree I will never buy another Chrysler.
