1998 Chrysler Cirrus LX V6

Summary:

Overall very satisfied

Faults:

At 98000 miles car would start or start and miss fires very bad at an idle when the car had not been started in a couple of days, when there was a lots of moisture in the air.

I currently have a raddle in the valve cover area when the engine is initially started and will go away after the engine is accelerated several times, sounds like a lifter. Was wandering if anyone else has had problems with this noise. any help would be greatly appreciated.

General Comments:

Bought a 98 Cirrus and am totally satisfied, not only does the car run well, but very reliable. Might I comment, my car has 196,000 miles on it. It does not use any oil nor have I had any problems with it outside of having to purchase tires and high dollar gas, and on occasion, timing belt. Love the way the car handles and the ride is very comfortable.

I just bought one from its original owner, who took incredibly good care of it-- it has 129,000 miles, and everyone who has been in it says it runs like a brand new car. Smooth and quiet, super-comfortable and roomy inside, and I am very impressed by the torque and horsepower (I have a heavy foot). I paid next to nothing for it, too. When I saw it, it had ugly mags and those low-profile tires on it, which I asked him to remove and put the original wheels back on. Bought four new tires today, and I can't stop driving the thing. Not great on gas, but I guess that's part of the price for my driving style;) Only downside is that the AC needs repair and I can't afford it right now-- with black leather interior, it gets rather stuffy inside! But this is easily the best used car I have ever purchased.

1998 Chrysler Cirrus LXi 2.5L V6

Summary:

It's more than a car, it's my family. =)

Faults:

In 2000, driver's side door inside panel fell off slightly, just enough to jam the door. Fixed under warranty and never returned.

The computers failed to work properly when it was below -35C in 2004, which caused my engine to seize during braking. Fixed when new computers were installed. The technician told me it was due to the aging hardware on the computers.

General Comments:

Overall the car is a blast to drive. The V6 has lots of power to make a pass or lane change at highway speed. It's stable at high speed and relatively nimble at low speed. Yet the suspension setting is very comfortable on bumpy roads.

The fit and finish is impressive considering it's an American car. Other than the door panel mentioned above, I have no other issue.

One thing I must stress is the comfortable driving position and the broad driver's view outside the windshield. However, it seems like the car is designed for shorter drivers. I'm 170cm, and sometimes I can feel my hair scratching the roof, and my seat is in the lowest height position all the time. Of course, my car has less head room due to the sunroof. But without the sunroof, it seems like taller drivers still have to somewhat compromise.

The 2 things I don't like about this car are: the road noise when at high speed, and the hopeless rear drum brakes. I can easily forget about the noise unless I drive 5 hours straight or more. For brakes, it's OK in normal driving, but in emergency, don't count on the drums. It's a heavy car. So keep your safety distance. 99 or newer models get standard rear disks. Go for them if you like the car. The rear disks alone worth more than the extra price.

I'm trying to look for an engine for this make and model and year for this Chrysler. My wife's engine went out and I would like to get it fixed. It's a great car just to get rid of. I'm currently in Afghanistan and have not able to find anything. Is there anyone that would be able to point me in the right direction? If so my contact info is soulja101st@yahoo.com, or shocker42g@hotmail.com

Thanks for the help.
