2001 Dodge Durango

Summary:

Great family vehicle

Faults:

After 3 years of use, the air conditioning didn't cool the interior cabin as well as it did when it was new.

Rear seat belt retractors didn't fully retract the seat belt after a couple of years use.

General Comments:

This vehicle is an excellent towing vehicle. I towed my 25 foot camper without any problems.

Blind spots take a while to get used to.

Gas mileage wan't the best, but typical for a large SUV.

2001 Dodge Durango SLT 4.7

Faults:

My A/C & heater has recently went dead. You can feel the hot heat coming out when you driving, but when you turn on the heater or a/c it doesn't turn on. I replaced the heater blow motor, but that didn't fix the problem. I also checked the fuses and they are fine. I'm thinking it's an electric problem, but not sure. Can someone help and let me know if you had the same problem and the resolution.

Check the connection to the heater control assembly (where you turn on the heat from.) If the connection there is OK, then look towards the blower resistor block.

This is a common problem Chrysler products.. don't know what cause it for sure, but my friend told me some little valve or vacuum module under the hood.. my '94 Grand Voyager and '92 Plymouth Acclaim do the exact same thing. Its SO annoying!

Don't know if you got this fixed yet or not. My 2001 had the resistor go out. $10.00 part from the dealer and is located underneath the glove box.. Easily accessible and cheap to fix.

I agree, my 01 R/T has remarkable power and handling. I bought mine at 87,000 miles for the best 6000.00 dollars I ever spent on a SUV. Let's not forget the comfort and every option available known to man.

2001 Dodge Durango SLT PLUS 5.9L

Summary:

Dollar for dollar this vehicle is great to own if you are willing to maintain it well

Faults:

Passenger door speaker broke at approximately 25,000 miles. Repaired under Dodge service contract as vehicle was out of factory warranty. Thermostat went out at 27,000 miles. Repaired under Dodge service contract as well.

General Comments:

We like this truck a lot and got a good deal on it. We did a lot of research on this website before we chose to buy. We are happy to have gotten a service contract and would advise getting one if you choose any SUV, nothing is cheap to fix unless you are a mechanic. Fit and finish is very good. It's size is just right, not too big, not too small. Storage is good, having all those seats is great! We have used all the seat configurations you can think of. Power is excellant and acceleration is good, but not "oh my" impressive. The trip computer is off by just over 1 mile to the gallon. We get about 14mpg (when the trip computer tells me I'm getting 13) in it consistently on a 20 mile each way trip to work in decent traffic. It has recorded 17-18 highway on trips around the northwest. We now have the vehicle serviced at a private garage that is much more service oriented than the dealership, that has made a big difference to us. The dealer always wanted to do something else and it seemed wanted to "look" for problems where there weren't any. We believe servicing on the manufacturer's maintenance schedule is imperative to keep surprises from occurring, but that's why there are service schedules. Insurance is not too costly (my 1995 Mazda MX-6 LS was more expensive to insure).
