2002 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.5L

Summary:

3.5L ES Very nice riding car

Faults:

Transmission Sensor.

General Comments:

Great Car!!! Bought used & very happy so far.

The ride is great thanks to the large wheelbase. Seats are comfortable, especially the large back seat. Lots of room for a reasonably priced car.

Researched enough to know to buy only the 3.5L engine. Reliable so far.

2002 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.5

Summary:

Reliable, fast, and attractive

Faults:

Cooling system (air conditioning) has gone out twice.

Radiator has been replaced twice.

General Comments:

For a car made by Chrysler, which doesn't have the best reputation, this car has held up very well.

We have had it for almost 7 years, and things didn't start going wrong until it was in an accident in 2005. The front got hit at about 10 mph and it affected the radiator, so the cooling system got messed up, the air conditioning went out, and it had to be fixed.

Other than that, it only has had typical car things go wrong (like getting new shocks, oil changes, tire changes). I believe it didn't really necessitate a tune-up until it was over 100,000.

The 3.5 engine is certainly not a gas sipper but not totally a gas guzzler either (gets about 300 miles on a full tank).

This car is HUGE and often hard to back up in tight spots, but it is a very reliable car. The engine noise (or growl when accelerating) on this model is also great.

2002 Dodge Intrepid SE 2.7 V6

Summary:

It's comfortable, sleek, and runs great, until now

Faults:

I have never had any major problems with my car. I like it.

I have done the required maintenance on it. Yes I am a woman. I know what to do and how to do it. Basic repairs only. Any thing else goes to I take to the dealer for fixing, but I haven't had any major issues. I now have 53,400 miles on it. I bought it with 15,000 mile. I did respond to the recall on the driver's seat to be replaced.

I don't want to start an argument, but I believe that women can educate themselves regarding these issues.

General Comments:

I have always liked the way it handles, no problems with acceleration, and it has stood up to my Mastiff and my trips to Portland, Oregon (some 600 miles.) a six hour drive for my medical treatment.

If there is a class action suit, please would you send me information on it so I can decide to participate or not. My email is cakwebb@yahoo.com

I also like any comments as well sent to that email address please.

2002 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.5

Summary:

This is an outstanding value for a full-size sedan - just look for a car that has good maintenance

Faults:

The automatic transmission valve assembly had to be replaced at 77,000 miles.

The right front ball joint had to be replaced at 83,000 after hitting a major pothole.

General Comments:

This is one of the best full-size sedans I've ever owned. I had a 2001 Chrysler Concorde that ran great until an off-duty cop ran a red light in his Chevy SUV and nearly totaled the Concorde. It had the 2.7L engine and I had absolutely no problems at all with the car.

When I replaced it I bought a used 2002 Intrepid with the 3.5L V-6. I get 30 MPG in the Colorado mountains, and average 25 MPG in the Denver metro area. The interior is excellent. The leather seats, even with 94,000 miles, look like new. Handling is terrific, especially in the snow and ice that we get from time to time in the winter in Denver. The 3.5L V-6 is a super smooth, powerful, dependable engine that I believe will take me to at least 200,000 miles.

The reports of sludge on the 2.7 are, in my opinion (30 years experience as a mechanic), due solely to the poor maintenance of owners who don't bother to take care of their cars. I change my oil every 3,000 miles with conventional blends, and at 94,000 miles the Intrepid doesn't burn or use any oil at all between oil changes.
