1998 Dodge Stratus 2.2 Liter

Summary:

This car is OK until 150,000 Miles

Faults:

Head gasket went at 90,000 miles - fixed by warranty.

Front brakes went bad at 105,000.

Power break Master Cylinder went at 110,000.

Timing belt broke at 155,000.

Rear drum brake rubber seals went bad and cylinder ruptured at about 156,000.

Both front bearings went bad at around 157,000.

Fuel Pump failed at 160,000.

Maybe I forgot one or two more things after 150,000.

Last Year this car cost me 1700$ to fix between 150,000 and 160,000 miles. And I did the brakes myself. So that is bad.

General Comments:

It is spacious, the engine goes up to 120 mph max speed, not too many problems until the 150's. It went 15000 miles without an oil change back at 90,000 miles and the engine seems fine.

If you take care of your car, then you won't have all those problems. I have the same car and I just hit 250,000 miles with no high maintenance, just oil change and brake change.

Summary:

If you buy this car, you will be on a first-name basis with your mechanic!

Faults:

Absolutely everything. I've practically replaced every part in the car. The only thing I can say is that I have done nothing to the transmission.

General Comments:

Pretty good driving car. Been up and down the east coast in it. Mass., NY, NJ, PA, DE, MA, DC, VA, FL. You name it, I probably drove there. Gas mileage is bad, low 25mpg was the best I've ever gotten. I will never buy a Dodge again. Cost an arm and a leg to fix. This car was in the shop every month for the first year of owning it. It got better and gave me a year of hassle-free driving. Then the problems started again. Traded it in for a Toyota Yaris. (Which I love)

1998 Dodge Stratus ES

Summary:

Smooth ride, great sound system, looks great

Faults:

Car eats breaks like crazy. I have had to get my front and back breaks re-done. There was also a leak with my break fluid. Needed a new tie rod at 72000. Wheel barrings needed to be replaced. Engine is loud when car isn't warmed.

*Car makes some kind of clicking noise coming from the Speedometer when you turn the car on, and the first 2-5 minutes of driving it. With clicking noise, it sounds like the blinker is on, just a little bit softer. It happens at random, and does not change performance, so I just let it go.

Cup-holders are way too large. Every time I turn a corner, if I have a bottle of water in the cup-holder, it just falls right out.

General Comments:

Nice smooth ride.

Looks great from the front, and side, but rear view, however... well I'll pass on that one.

Cabin is large, and provides plenty of room.

Great stereo quality. Speakers last for a long time. However, the actual CD player quit working around 67000. Needed to be re-placed.

Speedometer is bright, easy to read.

Accelerates great.

Large backseat!

Doesn't drain oil.
